I had a weird turn yesterday, wherein I was ruminating about Trump’s (alleged but look at all the public evidence of the past few years) mental health problems. Trump does all this stuff he really can’t help doing; his whole life has warped him into what he is today. _ **BUT** _… he may not have gotten up to all his shenanigans, and not as far as he has, without the support of the Republicans. In essence – and this is the thought I never expected to have – for just a few moments, I felt _sorry_ for Trump as a mentally ill person taken advantage of by all the sharks, propping him up for their own gain. But then I remembered that, while that _is_ true, Trump is functional enough to have had an active part in trying to shape things, so fuck him. We’ve all known it for a long time, but the departure of Trump will still leave us with the Republican party, all those millions of voters, and the stage set for a _smarter_ Trump-type to step on up. My heart hurts, and I’m tired. But I did just check my voter registration for the 5th or 6th time this calendar year, and I have printouts on the when and where for my early voting opportunity. Unfortunately, my state doesn’t allow no-reason-needed mail-in absentee ballots. ---

I got a letter from Trump the other day. It was a survey asking me to rate from 1-10 how I felt the Trump administration did on what he considers key issues. At first I threw it in the recycle bin, but then I reconsidered. Not content with merely filling in the circles, I annotated my own thoughts on the issues. The Wall (30 ft ladder \> $30 billion wall) withdrawal from the Iran treaty (does he want to build a hotel in Teheran now?) immigration reform (does it have to involve locking people up in cages like animals?) lower taxes (so future generations will be burdened with quadrillions in debt) standing up to Russia and China (like when you didn’t mind the Russians interfering the election on your behalf and making the American people pay tariffs that didn’t harm China) handling of the Covid crisis (HE LISTENS TO WITCH DOCTORS INSTEAD OF ACTUAL DOCTORS), likelihood to re-elect Trump (is there a circle for minus 10 million?) willingness to do volunteer work for the Republican party (not at the cost of my eternal soul) I still had to use my own stamp, so I feel like I lost money on the deal. ---

I do the same thing. I think I mentioned this in another thread - I give out this phone number that came free with my cable package. I use it when I need to give a phone number but I don’t want to give a real number. I don’t gave an actual phone attached to the line, but incoming calls show up on my TV. And since I sent the forms back with that box checked, I see a lot of calls coming in from RNCC with a DC area code. So I hope I’m effectively wasting their time. ---

I give a number starting with 555- when I want to waste solicitors’ time or am required to input a phone number on websites or applications. And I happily use postage-paid envelopes to send back my replies to causes and organizations I dislike. ---
