Soldiers without such a patch can be considered “slick-sleeved” or “light on the right” and are sometimes viewed less favorably, particularly for promotions, than soldiers who have deployed, even if these soldiers did not actually reject or otherwise try to get out of a hostile fire/imminent danger deployment. ---
