How has the Amazon webservers issue affected you today?

I’ve not been affected in any way that I’ve noticed.

Cause of the problem:

My dad moved to Arizona a number of years ago. He is in IT like I am (in fact, I grew up around computers because it was his hobby and it’s probably the reason I ended up in IT eventually) and he works in a teaching job. His main focus is in preparing people to work in massive datacenters that are a huge business in Arizona. The state has a lot of wide, empty land, very little in the way of natural disasters, easy access to infrastructure, and really no other use for the land. So it’s a pretty ideal place for this kind of thing. Not surprised that the issue happened there, just because there are so many datacenters.

Also, from the article:

It’s always DNS

That made me laugh. It’s so freaking true. When I experience widespread connectivity issues, I swear at least half the time DNS is involved. It’s a cliche but for a reason. It’s almost as much of a cliche as “reboot your computer”.
