It’s simply part of his pattern. As long as the pro-life right held the key to the nomination for him, Trump was all in favor of their position. But now that it looks like an electoral loser, he’s going to turn on them. If he had been against abortion as a principle, he wouldn’t be doing what he just did - he would be talking up the party line about how America needs the “culture of life” and how important it is to fight for those values. Instead, the “most pro-life president in American history” is showing that he has no internal values system of his own - that all he craves is popularity and respect, but he knows how to get neither. ---
