These people will believe anything if it feeds their pre-existing delusions and biases. I almost wrote the word “literally” there but deleted it as I thought that might be a bridge too far. To be honest though I’m increasingly having issues imagining scenarios where this **isn’t** the case. ---

I have a BIL that is a Trump supporter. He admitted that the insurrection was bad. I’m sure now he is convinced it was just a protest or demonstration that got just a little bit out of hand, and that’s what happens when people are fighting for freedom. I like the guy. Otherwise very sharp and has everything together. There is no longer any point talking to him about the sedition and insurrection though. Our only hope is that the justice system will take care of Trump. I fear it won’t though. ---

No, it won’t. We thought Mueller and the Justice Department would save us. He/they did not. We thought the legislature, through the impeachment process would save us. It did not. We thought direct indictments, both civil and criminal, would save us. So far they have not and signs are pointing to no. We thought SCOTUS would be the final guardrail keeping us out of the authoritarian abyss. Instead its member have traded their impartiality for politics and it will not. Instead, it is up to us, the voters, but just voting is not enough. Contribute and work for the candidates you find at least acceptable and work on election day, poll-watching, driving voters to the polls, etc. For if the authoritarians prevail this time around, the next step is direct action, a truly horrific prospect. ---
