I was being slightly facetious. I mean, I could have said, he gave money _to a woman, **without molesting her and being sued for it** _ (though, in all fairness, EJC has yet to see one thin dime). Mostly, though, it is a facile attempt to display empathy for common folk, loosely wrapped in political grandstanding, with a hint of _look how much better I am than you_. So, yeah, literally trying to buy votes, albeit indirectly. ---
