The ballroom is a distraction. [The PEOC (Presidential Emergency Operations Center)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Emergency_Operations_Center) is located UNDER the East Wing. Trump wants to renovate that so it has a McDonalds. ---

I think it more likely that the destruction of the East Wing was a temper tantrum in response to the 18 October “No Kings” protests. It was clearly so unplanned, uncoordinated, and took even people in his regime by surprise that it really doesn’t work as a cover for some contrived scheme to undermine the intelligence or military coordination (which he’s doing quite well just by ridding the institutions of experience and basic competence). I question that Trump is more than vaguely aware of the PEOC as a place where people yell complicated information at him and try to contradict his “a very large brain” understanding of the entire world based upon his expansive knowledge of how to run waterfront casinos into bankruptcy. It’s actually kind of a cramped and utilitarian space with little opportunity for adornment of gilded fixtures that it has little interest to him. A ballroom, on the other hand, where he can sit at a raised dias with supplicants fêting him and heads of state bowing to him is exactly the kind of thing that will hold his attention. Stranger ---

I agree, and don’t have trouble believing that he’s wanted this for a long time. And it certainly is possible that there was a more measured ‘get approvals and permits’ process planned, but Donald’s extreme emotional neediness in the face of the No Kings protest changed the plans to “just tear it down NOW!!!” I do think there’s something else at work here, though: the **Presidential Emergency Operation Center** that supposedly lies under the now-demolished East Wing. I would guess that Donald wants it to be far more plush and gold-encrusted than it has been for whatever time it’s existed, and that this Ballroom project is covering for some secret upgrades down below the acknowledged construction. Donald may quite rightly be anticipating a VERY angry populace, once this winter’s planned hunger, disease, and lack of heating oil gets well underway. He wants to be comfortable while he hides (and directs the military to mow down the masses). ---

Is the wrestling event still scheduled? I guess the ballroom won’t be done in time. But the thing will be so big that in the future Donnie can have monster truck rallies in there, even football games. Maybe rodeos–how about prison rodeos featuring incarcerated illegal immigrants? Can gladiatorial combat be far behind? Featuring the same illegal immigrants, I guess. ---

My health insurance premiums just went up 30%. And let’s be honest, it’s going to be worse for some people. Some fucking people fucking deserve the country they voted for.
