I know that there are a lot of bigger things to be concerned about but I am still upset about the trees being cut down at East Potomac Golf Course. For those not up on the issue, Trump has taken over several public and historic DC golf courses and plans to “renovate” them. In March, the judge in the case told the administration that they were not to cut down more than ten trees without prior notice to the court. Friday afternoon at 4:55 PM on a holiday weekend (when the judge was out of the country) the administration filed notice that they intended to cut down more trees. Early Saturday morning they began cutting down trees and have currently removed more than 430. Needless to say, the judge is not happy and has stayed any further actions for now. However, those trees, many of them over 100 years old are gone for good. ---

This is just one more example of Trump’s utter wanton destructiveness, whether it is aimed at individual people’s and children’s lives, entire countries, entire industries, or something as precious as an ancient tree. We knew he was going to defy the judge and cut the trees down anyway. Didn’t we all know that? Didn’t the judge even know that? After all, he didn’t hesitate to bulldoze the East Wing of the White House. And I believe he will level the rest of it to the ground before he leaves office. Recently we had a big storm here in San Antonio, and on the property of the place where I live, we lost two 100+ year old trees. Everyone here was devastated and in mourning. Workers were out here over several days cutting up the trunks so the trees could be removed. One section of a trunk is being taken to a woodworker who is going to make it into a bench with a plaque so future visitors and residents will know about the trees that were lost. That’s the way old trees should be honored. Not cut down at the whim of some deranged maniac. ---

The other thing is that he’s turning public golf courses open to all into professional ones. I don’t know if they will still be available to everyone but I expect they will cost more, and therefore be unaffordable by some. ---

So true. In the Newsweek article linked, as might be expected, there are Trump fans busily sane-washing his choice to post these videos. ‘He’s teaching us about Nature!!11!!!’ seems to be the most popular slant. There are several major debates taking place, tonight: in Georgia, Maine, New York, and Iowa, among others. How I would love it if the moderators would task the GOP candidates with defending Donald’s posting of snuff films… ---
