And Donald grabbing for a CPAC poll from the past—pretty much guaranteed to be actually worshipful, not just favorable–shows that he IS aware that bad ratings are a danger to him. Congress, and the Cabinet, too, are made up of VERY self-interested individuals. Their “loyalty” to Donald will end the moment they start to be certain that he will drag them down from their current positions. I don’t think he can or would be willing to pay them enough to leave him in place, if they become fearful enough. ---

Last night I was channel surfing and turned to CNN just in time to hear the host say “but that’s the world we live in now” before it went to commercial. I was wondering what the story had been that led to that but realized it could have been absolutely anything in the world we live in now. ---

One measure of the progress of American society is that anti-Catholicism is much diminished from what it was in 1960. As **ETF** and **cmc** note, it was a major factor in JFK’s campaign that year, and he faced it head-on, as he knew he had to. By 2009, Biden being the first Catholic VP and then, in 2021, the second Catholic President, got much less attention. We’ve largely grown past that. Generally only law nerds are aware that SCOTUS is now two-thirds Catholic, something that would have been unimaginable in 1960. ---

Nitpick: I prefer [‘ISO 3166-1 alpha-3’](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-3) names, so ‘RSA’ because despite being an actual South African, I was not sure if “SA” referred to South America or not. I would love to visit the USA, but, that is not going to happen soon. And I like it here in RSA. ---

It looks pretty good as far as bronze statues go. Maybe they only go uncanny valley horrific (in general - not want to see this one ever again in any size) when they’re life-size. Why bother with the other two (maybe the woman can stay. I’m not gonna look at any footage, yet I do recall he was somewhat upright and did raise his fist and say “Fuck \*something^” so was the guy on the right a doctor who said “just an ear wound, got time for the money shot” or an actual SS guy? If the latter (including the woman) they’re not doing a good job. He ought to be flat on his back and pancaked with SS guys. When Reagan was shot, at least two SS guys had their Uzi’s out instantly, Reagan was surrounded and issued into the Limo. I forgot whom, but someone with the call said go to the Hospital not the WH (which has a complete ER) which apparently saved Ronnie’s life. Except for his good-humoured stunt a month of so later with the popping balloon “missed me!” and the others injured, that was it for that incident. This monstrosity should go on Governor’s Island glaring across the Hudson at the Statue of Liberty. ---
