The 5th Amendment states that “no person shall… be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;”, which was the original Due Process Clause, but was not considered binding on the states. The 14th Amendment extended this protection to state actions as well, as many of the states in the process of Reconstruction at the time didn’t want to extend due process to the, uh, _darker_ persons under their jurisdiction.. So both the Federal government and all state governments are constrained to not deprive people of due process. ---

Trump may one day have a mishap where a plate-glass window in one of his tower tenements gives way yet he’s “wise” (first word to come to mind) that his towers are pieces of crap. Dunno what the circumstances were for Putin’s rivals “falling out of windows” was. I worked in the Empire State Building which still has windows that open, yet not floor to ceiling so you’d pretty much have to squeeze out for the plunge. I reckon Putin has gotten better with Novichuk-type stuff so “sudden heart attacks” on 40 year olds is his modus operandi. And no way will his pal Trump be drinking any Diet Coke spiked with that.
