How has your Christmas been?

First of all, Bosda, {{{ }}}. I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to you.

My Christmas was actually okay for the first time in about three years. Huge relief. Some drama but minimal compared to past years.

I had one of the best Christmases I can remember. Definitely the best since my parents divorced more than 10 years ago. Last year was one of the worst of my life, so I am still walking on air. Other than a few very minor annoyances, I do not know how it could have been better. It was all topped off yesterday by a very unexpected holiday bonus.

We had a fun Christmas. Mainly just myself, the kid and my folks with a brief foray into the land of relatives.

Heaps of low cost but fun gifts (my favourtie is a sign my friend gave me that I can hold up to ask my headphoned child to make me a nice cuppa tea).

Food, 30C heat with a pool on hand, more food, not too many people trying to tempt us into sociability, and more food.

Boxing day was just heat and food and napping.

Bliss.

This was my first Christmas without my mother. My dad was kind of bummed, and I had a headache, but the relatives all came to my house on Christmas Eve so we made the best of it. I enjoyed watching the littlest nephews and niece opening their presents. My cousin brought his girlfriend along, and she helped my daughter make Easy-Bake goodies. That was so sweet of her. My favorite gift was the silky green scarf and manicure kit my daughter gave me, bought with her birthday money. I love that kid.

Christmas Day my daughter and I went to the ex in-laws’. There was lots of food, and it was nice seeing them again. The kids played Just Dance 4, and I even joined in to dance a couple of songs to burn off Christmas dinner. I got a $25 Starbucks card! Yay! She stayed a couple days with her grandparents, so the house is kid-free till tomorrow. I got the computer all to myself.

Spent Christmas Eve somewhat down. The next day navigating between my ex-husband’s house and the kids, to my boyfriend’s place, then back to ex’s for Christmas dinner, then to the homes of two different friends. The highlight of my day was beating a friend at Chess. Glad it is almost all over.

Good enough. I don’t hate non-Christians who diss Christmas that much anymore. I hate Christians who play along. But not to worry, the feeling goes away beginning January the following year.

This one hasn’t been too bad. I spent most of my spare time in my office playing Rift, WoW and Diablo while SWMBO watched Christmas movies in the living room, I managed to avoid every one of them. And now that Christmas is over, the gawdsawful music is dying off, so things are getting better.

And I made her get all weepy and smiley with my present to her. I done good.
