How have you political views evolved?

Who was it that said, “He who is not liberal in his youth has no heart, but he who does not become more conservative with age has no brain?”

My father is a staunch conservative republican, my mother a staunch democrat. I can, in my memory think of excellent examples which illustrate those differences between them. I think I always more sided with my mother, although no one ever asked. As a teenager and young adult I would have described myself as a liberal democrat. As a “grown up”, with a family and a mortgage and bills to worry about, I find myself sliding through the middle and teetering on the brink of conservatism. Being the sole income makes me worry about money constantly, I worry about what my kids are seeing/hearing on TV and radio (not so much radio they’re still both young), and I worry about what schools will be like and how to pay for college. These things have made me much more fiscally conservative (“I should have comtrol over my own money!”), but that’s not surprising for me as i never had enough money of my own to worry about before, and my parents never talked money with me so I don’t know what they worried about. I still feel a strong pull toward social liberalism, but because of my money worries, I don’t know how they should get paid for. I really feel like I should be volunteering, but the family life keeps me busy and I’m rather lazy. But I work with a couple really conservative guys and they accuse me of still being a liberal (they say thing like “I hate fags” or applaud some action against an Islamic country). so I try to mount a defense or an attack against their ultra conservative POV , and they just laugh me off as a wussy liberal.

I’m basically a big mush-head. I vote what I think best at the time, but I also often follow the local liberal-leaning paper’s recomendations.

Let me, a heartless person, answer that for you. It was Winston Churchill
