How influential were the Beatles, musically?

Another recent song that sounds like the Beatles is “We’re Going to Be Friends” by the White Stripes. I first heard it when a friend was listening and I asked him if that was Paul McCartney singing.

I have no cite, but I have heard that the Beatles were what made Bob Dylan decide to go electric. Maybe someone can confirm or debunk this.
