# How is the track record for sanctions?

How have sanctions fared in getting countries to submit of the will of the sanctioner?  
That’s pretty much it.

As part of a general international effort in tacit partnership with a real opposition statesman, they worked in South Africa.

Arguably they worked fine in Iraq, insofar as Saddam could not reconstitute any WMD programs or threaten his neighbours, imaginary inter-continental drones of death notwithstanding.
