Well, if he’d called the thread “My dear Pop’s dear pop”, that would be worth a commendation.
Damn, where’s a mod when you need one?
You do realize that 4 × $2.75 = $11, right?
I was also going to say this. I know where I usually shop, if the deal is for multiples, they will give the discounted price on however many I buy, even if only one. Sometimes it will say in smaller print “must buy X quantity.”
I think that’s Eliahna’s point: that it’s scammy for a store to give the impression you get a better deal if you buy four, when in fact it’s the same price as if you had bought one.
And see, I would think the opposite, unless the ad notified me that “must by X” was a part of the deal. My local grocer does not generally enforce a “must by X” rule, however. They often have some sort of “10 for $10” deal going down; I often buy fewer than ten of those items, and they always ring up at $1 each.
Either way it goes, it is much less scummy than the fact that they are allowed to advertise prices without taxes and fees. That $11 for four 12-packs of soda up here would actually total $14.01 by the time they added sales tax and a 5¢ deposit per can. That’s a whopping 36% higher than advertised, and that’s bullshit!
If it was a rant, you should have put it in the Pit. And you certainly framed it as if you expected everyone to agree with you.
If the sale were still on, I wonder if you could go back to the store and ask for a refund, where they would owe you two additional cases of soda and $1. And since you would still be entitled to the original two cases, you shouldn’t even have to lug them back to the store (which is good since you probably drank a few on Easter).
edit: I bet the POS system would require a refund on the original two cases (meaning they had to be returned) and then four new cases purchased. Easy way around that, but not if the store manager is being difficult.
And people like the OP are EXACTLY the reason promo signs reading, “Special: 3 for $8”, need to also include, “or $2.99 each” !
Because somehow, against all odds, “3 for $8”, isn’t clear enough for them!
Even though, as this thread makes painfully evident, most people fully comprehend what it means. But there’s always that one guy insisting he should get the same deal on two!
I don’t think it would matter a whit how clear you make the sign. There will always be people like this!
