# How large is the height difference between you and your partner?

Inspired by a couple of posts in [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=632447) noting that tall men and short women seem to be frequently seen together. I’m curious as to whether people like to date people who are not of a similar height to them.
I know as a short girl the guys I’ve been attracted to have always seemed to be tall.

I’m 5’6" and she’s 5’0". If we reproduce they will be dwarves.
Most of my exes have either been the same height as me or in a couple of cases up to 5" taller.

I’m 5’1" and my husband is 6’2". I’ve dated guys as short as 5’4", though for a guy to be shorter than me, he’d have to be pretty damn short. Most of the guys I’ve dated have been relatively tall, though (5’10" and up).

I’m 5’4" and hubby is 6’5". 13 year old kids are already 5’5" and 5’7" so I feel even shorter than I ever did!

I’m 5’7". My wife is a shade under 5’10". We’ve been together a little over 22 years; married for 21. At first my height didn’t bother her at all. About 10 years in, however, she began mentioning it with increased frequency. Sometime shortly thereafter, only because I’d had enough, we had _the talk_; either she was going to get over it or we were going to be finished. It was never brought up again.

My boyfriend is maybe an inch or two taller than I am. I often wear shoes with enough of a heel that we’re essentially the same height.
He’s on the short side of average height for a man and I’m on the tall side of average height for a woman.
I sometimes suspect that the reason he was available for me to date was because other women may have had a problem with him not being particularly tall. I know that not dating any guy shorter than six feet is a BIG deal for some women. I personally have never considered it that big of a thing. My dad was 6’3" and I do recall him fondly, but I don’t recall any way that his height had much of an impact on our daily life. The guys I’ve dated who were six feet or taller weren’t any better than the one I have now. 🙂

If I wear any heel at all (well, anything more than 2 inches), I’m taller than my husband. I’m 5-9 and he’s a shade under 6 feet. I was about a half inch taller than my first husband.

We’ve noticed couples with large height differences too (because they’re more obvious?). I’m 180 cm and she’s 150.

I’m 5’6" and my boyfriend is 6’0". I’ve always dated guys that were taller than me. Except for my first “real” boyfriend, he was about 2 inches shorter than me. I hated that! He always told me that it doesn’t matter how tall you are when you’re laying down. Classy.

There’s a one inch difference between my husband and myself, 5’7" vs 5’8"
My parents were radically different heights. Mom is 4’11" (she lied on her drivers license and said 5’) and Dad is 6’3".
I will say that I don’t wear heels as much now and I kind of miss that.

I’m 5’8" and a smidge, Tony’s 5’10" minus a smidge, I have very thick curly hair, and he shaves his head. We look like we’re the same height. I’m very fond of wearing high heels, and he doesn’t care.
In my younger days, I always dated taller men. I’m older and wiser now.

BTW I have a female friend who is 5’1" and married a guy who’s 6’6".
I always wonder how they, you know. You could have a bit of A or some B but not A and B at the same time…

I’m 5’8" and my boyfriend is 6’0". A noticeable difference, but not too much of one. I did date a guy who was shorter than me, and I didn’t have a problem with it, but he did–he told me once that he wished I was shorter.

Your post reminded me of my grandma. She used to tell me that when she was young she thought the very most perfect date/boyfriend/husband would be a man who could rest his chin on her head while they slow danced. She ended up happily married for over 40 years to my grandfather, who at 5’10" only had about 3" on her.
I didn’t vote in the poll because I’m currently single.
My first husband is 6’1" or 7" taller. My second husband is 5’9", 3" taller than I am.
