It’s Mr. TeaElle and myself, our 18 month old daughter and our infant son who is not yet eating solids. We also have Spunky the Bichon Frise and Auric the Goldfish.
Milk: We use soymilk and only for cereal and in recipes, so a quart lasts about two weeks.
Bread: I make my own so it’s always fresh and at a lot of meals, warm right from the oven when we eat it so we eat a lot of it.
A one pound loaf lasts about three days, a half pound loaf only lasts about a day.
Paper towels: I use reusable Handi-Wipe type rags for a lot of things that would normally be done with paper towels, so a roll generally lasts a month at the very least. I really hate using stuff that gets thrown away.
Dish soap: We buy large sized bottles at Costco and one generally lasts a year, since we only handwash our pots and pans and other things which can’t go into the dishwasher.
Toothpaste: Mr. TeaElle and I each have our own, a tube lasts me about 3 months or so. I brush my teeth obsessively (four times daily) so I go through a lot.
Shampoo/Conditioner: Shampoo lasts longer than conditioner for me, my hair is really dry and needs a lot of conditioning. Shampoo lasts maybe three months, conditioner lasts maybe six weeks.
Butter: About half a pound a month of the type we use daily (whipped/unsalted) and more, of course, if I bake, but that’s a different kind (salted regular).
Cheese: We’re ovo-lacto vegetarians and cheese is a staple of our diets. We eat a lot of different varieties and generally buy two or three pounds every ten days or so, though there’s overlap, we don’t necessarily use all that we have before we buy more.
Toilet paper: One regular roll every week or so, but I try to buy the double-sized rolls just because Mr. TeaElle is oddly incapable of changing the #*$&%!@ things and I don’t need to have to worry about doing that every single week.
Cereal: We don’t eat the cold stuff but we do eat oatmeal, a one pound canister lasts about two months in the spring/summer months, one month in the fall/winter.
Coffee: We buy by the pound, one pound at a time, maybe two if we want a couple of different varieties. A pound lasts about 8 days.
Adding my categories:
Laundry detergent: I make my own because Mr. TeaElle is allergic to most commercial brands. One batch is about 10 gallons, and that lasts more than three months, though I average ten loads a week because I use cloth diapers.
Body Lotion: I am the queen of lotion. Either that or my skin is just bone dry. A 16 ounce bottle lasts about six weeks, tops.
