I’ve been around on and off since the start of the board here (as opposed to its earlier AOL incarnation). Used to post a lot more but sort of drifted off when the load times became insane. Still, always checked in and happily ponied up for membership. I’ve always been more of a GQ/CS/IMHO/Pit reader myself. Despite having been around from the start, MPSIMS feels these days like being a guest at the party 😉 ---

I almost _always_ post or at least read whenever I’m at home. When I’m overseas, not so much (but you guys hear from me anyway). So, until either I’m six feet under or the hamster in the wheel has a heart attack, I’ll pop in and make my presence known. Tripler And my little pre-sig-thingies will continue, too. ---

I can’t see myself leaving any time soon. I may step down from modding sometime because of the time drain, but that would depend on the vagaries of my work load. Another hairy construction project, with its attendant 14-hour days, might do it. But otherwise, no. I haven’t found anyplace comparable, frankly. A lot of passingly fun places but none that offer the breadth and quality of the Dope. Veb ---

I know we’ve got some senior members here in their sixties and perhaps even seventies or older. I can’t see why I’d want to stop posting when I get “up there”, though my frequency might go down. I confidently expect that by the time I reach seventy, gerontologists will heartily recommend participation in the SDMB as a way to keep the mind engaged and resist the onset of senility. ---

I think I’ll probably always be around, either lurking or posting. I was one that stopped for a good 2 or 3 years, reading only every 6 months or so, and hardly ever posting. But, it never really went away, and I was still interacting with people that posted fairly regularly on the board. It’s a great place, with a great group of people, worth sticking around until they ever decide to close up shop. ---

I’m pretty sure that one of my favorite posters - David Simmons - fought in WWII, which would make him close to 80 even if he enlisted as a very young man. To be a little more serious, I think I’ll post here until the end. Whose end it is, mine or [boards.straightdope.com](http://boards.straightdope.com), is left to be seen. I’ve “grown up” on these boards. I was seventeen when I joined, right about when I started being a lot more conscious about things that weren’t _Seinfeld_. I already had a good sarcastic, cynical side, and this boards helped me develop it quite a bit. I also learned a lot about critical thinking, and how to look at something very closely before accepting it, no matter the source. I consider the SDMB to be a big influence on who I am, and I can’t see myself not wanting to think and discover, so I think I’ll be here for a very long time, or at least as long as the signal-to-noise ratio stays good. ---

I’ll stop posting when I grow up, stop reading trashy sci fi novels, stop playing RPGs, stop believing I can change the world … never. No, seriously, I’ve changed so much since I joined in August 2001 (although I read the board before then). I was a freshly minted 16, almost friendless, reading stuff online at 4 am because I had terrible insomnia. On day I stumbled into a thread in GD, which I generally don’t do. There was a thread about child molestation that I felt compelled to read, even though it was incredibly long and then compelled to post. I didn’t know so much about myself back then. I stopped even reading the boards during my junior year in high school, as well, I stopped doing just about everything except homework. Then came dropping out of school, going to college and not having time to eat let alone sleep or eat. Then, when I was a junior in college, last April, when it became a paid membership, I desided to buy one and then I thought I might as well use it. Of my 240 odd posts, I’d say 230 came from after then. I post in spurts, less when I’m stuck at my parents as they still use dial up :eek: . Crappy dial up. ---

I never finished my thought :smack: . Got distracted by lordknowswhat. Now, at 19 and about to graduate from college, my life has drastically changed. I’m happy with friends that I love and I have come to accept who I am, which as given me the courage to talk to strangers about anything on the boards or in real life. ---
