How many blades on your razor? (Answers from both men + women, please))

Sure. Remember the boil-in-a-bag salisbury steaks?

(Alternates between “yum!” and shuddering.)

I don’t think it’s nearly that simple. Bad technique may give you a slightly better shave with a cartridge razor, but with good technique, there’s precious little difference in the end product between a double-edged safety razor and just about any cartridge razor, assuming both razors have sharp blades. Also, what you use as your shaving lubricant matters- better creams and soaps give you more leeway as far as bad technique is concerned.

I mean, I can give myself just as smooth of a shave with a twin-blade disposable and a can of Wal-Mart’s Barbasol clone as I can with my Merkur 34C and my tub of Cella, but using the latter is ultimately cheaper, and more enjoyable.

Back up to 2005, and it would have been different. I’d have had a much harder time with the Merkur, and wouldn’t have known how to build lather correctly, so the DE/brush/soap combination would have been notably worse than the cheap disposable/canned foam combination.

Schick Quattro for my legs. The wire-wrapping around the razor blades keeps me from developing hives. The joys of weirdly sensitive skin.

If anything else needs to be shaved, I use the cheap two-blade blue-handled razor. Whatever’s on sale.

Couldn’t cast a vote–another electric shaver user. I have neck and face skin like a baby’s ass (not meant to be a boast, on the contrary), and the few Irish whiskers I have, coupled with the no-beard Cherokee blood, makes using ANY blade problematic; I would have to figure out how to apply a tourniquet to my throat. You know the scene in “Skyfall” where Moneypenny shaves Bond with a straight razor? Scares me worse than “The Exorcist” did when I was 13. Starting growing the beard on Christmas Day 1984, should be just about fully-grown next month.

Insert obligatory zombies don’t shave joke here.

I guess I didn’t notice the cost discussion when I posted last year. I use a Quattro, and can use a blade for easily a month if not more. The shave is just fine, and my hair is not all that light. So, cost is not an issue.
I too started a long time ago with safety razors. No thanks. I never cut myself, and I can shave with my eyes pretty much closed. I’m not going to five blades though.

BTW I hate disposables because the handle is too light. But I’d use one over a safety razor any day.

Oh, yeah?

Same here. Been using one for about 10 years.

Straight razor ----- not that I shave a lot of my face. But it does the best job for what I do shave.
