How many browser tabs do you have open right now?

Because it seemed like a good idea ten years ago when it was fresh.

I like the Opera browser. My laptop has 16 tabs open, my Android tablet has 14 and my Android phone’s has 12. Thus I have alternatives when anything slows down.

I have 56 right now (hey, same as OP!)

My family makes fun of me.

Maybe I should delete three or four

Just 30 or so - about average for me.

I’m down to 28 right now: 24 in Firefox, and 4 in Chrome-with-no-Javascript which is open just to read NYT and WPO. I’m relieved to see this is “normal.” (Apologies to Dopers, if the “Normal” appellation is taken as an insult.)

AFAIK, tabs that aren’t clicked on and don’t run Javascript consume very little in the way of computer resources. Yes?

58 right now, in two windows.

In Win10, tabs are the only way to go even with WAY fewer windows, because Win10 is so aggressive about consolidating taskbar icons. Even with 30 tabs open in a window, I can visually keep track of them. I don’t think I can have 10 different things on my taskbar before Win10 consolidates.

Win10 has a ‘small icons’ option for the taskbar, but they’re wider than the regular icons! They’re only smaller vertically. The result is you have even less room on the taskbar if you go with the small icons! It’s bizarre.

I have only 5, same as I did (well 5-8) ten years ago.

One. I typically have no more than four or five open at a time. I really don’t understand how one can keep track or even see what they have open after about ten tabs.

I can’t fathom the idea of having so many tabs open. I keep it at a bare minimum. Right now I only have one open. When I have more than 4 or 5, I’ll close anything I’m not going to be using in the next few minutes. The only reason I ever have more than 4 or 5 open at a time is when I’m trying to research something or look something up and I’ll right-click-open new tab on a handful of search results that seem relevant.

When asked how many tabs someone has open, either to troubleshoot a browser issue or just for curiosity, I just can’t wrap my head abound the ‘not that many, maybe 25 or 30’ answers.
I wouldn’t know what to do with 20 or 30 or 50+ tabs.

Twelve right now, which is about the maximum before it starts to look unwieldy and I go back and prune the stuff I lost track of.

64, in 3 different windows. I’ve not gotten around to cleaning up the windows and tabs that I’m no longer using. Discarded tabs don’t take up memory, so I don’t really have an issue. I even use an extension that makes the discarding work better (working on a timer, allowing exceptions) so that I keep Chrome’s memory down.

It’s not hard to accrue so many tabs when you are very liberal about opening things in new tabs to make sure you can get back to exactly where you were before. For example, I do not ever open a thread on the SDMB without opening it in a new tab, and ever link I check out is in a new tab.

27 at the moment; because I just went through New Posts and opened a tab for each thread I felt like reading. I keep one page open more or less continuously for the Dope; the individual thread pages get closed when I’m done with it. I keep one base page open in the same fashion for two other sites I do similar things with; and one base page with generally 6 tabs in it all staying open for the weather. So I rarely have fewer than nine tabs/windows open at a time, even when I’m doing something else entirely. There’s also, temporarily, a page open for this area’s Craigslist lost and found, which I refresh about once a day in case somebody posts my Found Cat. (The places where I listed him I don’t bother to check once I checked that the listing showed up; they can call me.) Next Friday he’s going to be neutered and at least in my head Officially Lives Here, and I’ll close that window.

When I’m doing something else, they all live on the Dock, so they’re not in the way. When I want to check one of them, it’s faster to click on that window on the Dock and then refresh the page (or hit New Posts) than it is to hunt through my horribly overcrowded bookmarks list.

News I check usually in a different browser; generally also as multiple tabs from one page. All those tabs get closed when I’m not checking the news.

Holy moly. One browser has about 110 tabs going on. Another 56. Another 8. So 170+ tabs.

Well, that was certainly a trip down memory lane.

My usual tabs these days: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Feedly, Google News.

The others vary depending upon whether I’m at work or at home.

Seven

Do I get bonus points, if I guessed who resurrected this thread before I looked?

I have 6 open now…
