Despite my eight years in the Navy, only been to these places: Italy (met my husband there) New Zealand (where I was mistaken for a Fijian once and for a Western Samoan twice, though never for a Maori) Antarctica (for 30 days) Bermuda (got married there) Panama (was there during Operation Just Cause). ---

I see that I never wrote to this thread…here you go then: Turkey (my home country) USA (17 states) Spain Germany Belgium France Azerbaijan Switzerland (quite a few stopovers) I believe some dopers will feel the need to update their accounts…and others will feel like contributing to the collection of places visited by this extraordinary lot of people… And a point in point: If a doper who knows me has been to Turkey in this 2 year period, and I don’t know about it, he/she will have a couple of explanations to make!!!😉 ---

Well, I am better traveled than I thought - I rank in at a favorable 22/23 depending on strictness - in more or less chronological order, and all on my own steam: South Africa (homeland) Botswana South West Africa (now Namibia) Transkei (doesn’t really count, was an Apartheid homeland, and reconised as independant by SA, and no one else) United Kingdom France Belgium Holland Germany Austria Italy Vatican City Switzerland Luxemborg US of A Mexico Zimbabwe Lesotho Swaziland Mozabique Malawi Zambia Namibia (OK, I mentioned it already, but before and after counts?? 🆒 ) Canada On the agenda for the (near) future - at least that’s the plan: Ireland; Israel; Jordan; Egypt; Turkey; Greece; Denmark; Norway In the slightly more distant future: Kenya; Tanzania; New Zealand; Australia Me, infected by the travel bug? 🙂 Gp ---

Ok, I’ll try to do this chronologically: Iran UK (stopover) USA USSR Mexico Canada All over the US Carribean\* (St Thomas, Puerto Rico, St John) British Virgin Islands (all islands) France Ireland Hong Kong Malaysia Thailand Singapore Korea Japan (lived for 5 years) Australia Indonesia The Netherlands (stopover only, but have done it MANY times) Guam\* Saipan\* Germany (Frankfurt, stopover only) That’s all I can think of at the moment. \*these should NOT count, because they are either US protectorates or US territories, but why not list them? ---

Hm, USA, Canada, Mexico, Bimini, Venezuela, Peru, Argentina, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Sweden, Denmark, England, Scotland, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxemborg, Lichtenstein (haha on those last two), France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Austria. I may have missed one or two, but that’s what I can think of right now. That’s about 26.2 countries, I think. Two of those were flight stop overs, but aside from the 0.2 (Lichtenstein and Luxemborg) the rest I spent at least a day in, usually many days or weeks. A few of them months or years. ---

Hmmm… what say you all, that we agree to do like the Olympic Committee and recognize overseas territories, colonies, autonomous dependencies, etc. as “countries” if they are clearly culturally and geographically distinct from the metropolitan power? Ireland (home) UK France Italy Spain Greece Germany Holland Belgium Switzerland (for an afternoon drivefrom northern Italy) Liechtenstein (sp.?) (same afternoon - stopped for a beer) Austria (same afternoon - crossed the border and came back) Andorra Monaco (another afternoon drive - different afternoon) Croatia Bosnia (its 2 mile Adriatic coast - couple of hours) Malta Czech Republic Poland (another afternoon thing - border delays meant we made an evening out of it) USA Canada Cuba Thailand Indonesia Australia So - 25 if you include day trips. 19 if you don’t. Eurodopers are at a huge advantage here though. ---

So far, not that many. The europeans have an advantage in this. 🙂 1. USA (my native land) 2. Canada 3. UK (for about 6 hours) 4. Germany 5. Austria I’ll be moving to Germany in early November, and I hope to hit most of Europe while I’m over there, so I’ll stock up on countries! I’ve also been to over 30 states, and I hope to get to all 50 someday.
