How is not wanting to hurt someone’s feelings a bad thing in practice? 65,000 people makes for a really long list. Being left off of one,or fifty of those lists, still means nothing. This type of social-engineering thread always yields interesting results. The “Doper picture” threads _always_ bring out lurkers, and the “What does your username mean” ones usually do as well. ---

[/QUOTE] Honestly when I first saw this thread I thought it was going to be a memory exercise like “how fast can you alphabetize the fifty state capitals” I find it re-goddamn-diculous that it turned into “I dont want to do it because if I forget someone they wont invite me to their birthday party!” I mean its not like you forgot your grandma its just trying to spout off people’s usernames on an interweb message board. Not to mention I’m more likely to remember someone that I severely dislike than someone that amuses me. And yeah I agree about the pictures and the user name threads. Although I don’t really see how they are that different. Most threads here are exercises in vanity. Even the self deprecating ones. People love forums! ---

It’s easy to stay anonymous on a board of this size. It feels a bit strange sometimes because I am from a very small town and am not used to it, but at the same time it’s very freeing to be able to say whatever I want and realize that no one will connect it with me. I don’t recall enough names to be good at the game, just wanted to reassure anyone who’s feeling left out that I notice you, even if I can’t remember your name after I’ve closed your posts. I always look to see who’s posting and their location. ---

I lurked for like 2 years before joining, so I keep seeing the names posted and say “oh! yeah!” I’ve always been really bad with names, I can remember faces, but names? I suck at that. Here it tends to translate into:[ul]the one who’s a dr/lawyer/really knowledgeable about XYZ, [/ul] [ul]or the one who writes romance novels, [/ul] [ul]or who writes interestingly but wouldn’t want to argue with in Great Debates, [/ul] [ul]the foster parent[/ul] [ul]the girl with the same name as someone I went to HS with (BSSG)[/ul] [ul]the ladle guy, [/ul] [ul]the toothbrush guy, [/ul] [ul]the ones I met at the Woodlawn cemetery a few years ago, [/ul] [ul]the ones with really great advice, [/ul] [ul]the ones who really need to take advice but probably won’t, [/ul] [ul]the MMPers from a year or two back, [/ul] [ul]the people in publishing, [/ul] [ul]a messenger from a white elephant thing, [/ul] [ul]the guy who lives in CT that linked to a pic of himself that made me blush. (I think there was a calendar or something)[/ul] [ul]and of course a story guy.[/ul] There’s more, but it’s kid-bedtime. ---
