How many elderly covid patients get mild cases?

Assuming that we can trust the CDC, and that hospitalizations = severe cases…

Relative to the 18-29 year group, people in the following groups have:

  • 50-64 years: 4x higher chance of hospitalization, 30x higher chance of death.
  • 65-74 years: 5x higher chance of hospitalization, 90x higher chance of death.
  • 75-84 years: 8x higher chance of hospitalization, 220x higher chance of death
  • 85+ years: 13x higher chance of hospitalization, 630x higher chance of death

So it looks like the overall severity of cases doesn’t go up as dramatically with age as the death rate does.

She’s out of the hospital and back at home! And, I had her age wrong - she’s 99!

Yaay! Go Mom!

My 95 year old Mom, in a memory care facility on lockdown, tested positive a few months ago, and to this day is not symptomatic. Weird

Interesting news being reported today,

The Seoul government said it had found its first case of covid-19 in a cat on Monday, shortly after offering free tests to pets in the Korean capital.

Experts say there is no evidence cats or dogs can pass the novel coronavirus to humans, but they have nevertheless placed the cat in a 14-day quarantine. It was tested after having symptoms of vomiting and decreased activity, and after the family it lives with were all found to have contracted covid-19, officials said.
