Based on the number of questions I see posted on the forums here about [email scams](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=248426) and SPAM and the like, I have to ask how many email addresses does the average Doper have? I have 6 active and two inactive email accounts, the inactive ones get used from time to time and I have one permanently inactive address my first spam target you could say. Obviously this doesn’t include all the postmaster@ accounts though I do have 1 catchall account so my total added this way would be 9. How many email addresses do you have? ---

I used to have five but I’ve managed to downsize to a mere three. Work, home and one for my practically defunct band. If I ever get around to admitting that we’re never going to get another gig I’ll get rid of that one. OK well there’s a road runner address that we never got working. It exists but I can’t use it so I’m not counting that one. ---

5 work, home, ebay, one the kiddies use and a spam box for entering contests and when I need to supply a vaild email for some forum or e-tailer. ---

One and only one. I used to have three, but the extra two were mostly for storage. Then I forgot about them and everything that was stored was deleted due to an inactive account. :rolleyes: That’s hotmail for ya. ---

1. School address used only for school stuff and my Hotmail address. I guess that since I have a Yahoo! account and an AIM account I have e-mail address at [yahoo.com](http://yahoo.com) and [aol.com](http://aol.com). I have never opened these though… Oh, actually make it 3. I forgot that I have a work address at the company I work for on breaks. I only use that one when I’m working there (a week or two every few months…) ---

Well, I have 5 that I use, and about 10 more that auto-redirect into my work account. However, since I am the email administrator for work, the real answer is “as many as I want” 😃 ---

**1: Home e-mail:** Given only to people I personally know (with the condition that it not be used for bulk/forwarded joke/virus alert/etc. emails to reduce the likelihood of it making it’s way onto any spammer’s list.) 100% spam-free to date. **2: Work e-mail:** Used exclusively for work-related stuff **3: Free web-mail account:** Address I supply to businesses, organizations, the Straight Dope, etc. I also give this to people if they want to bulk mail me their virus alerts, jokes and other stuff without bothering to BCC it. This is my spam-catcher. Once it gets overwhelmed with spam, I ditch it and open up a new one. I already went through one that fell under the weight of spam. The current one is a few months old and is spam free for the time-being. ---

Personal 2. Immediate family 3. Family 4. Close business associates 5. Subscription (Sky and Telescope, SDMB) 6. Other subscriptions (Of less serious nature) 7. I have three personal e-mail accounts. One that I only give to a few select people and one for most other personal mail. The third is used for various newsletters, etc. that I subscribe to. I can also receive e-mail at work but is on the company account so I mostly use it only for business. ---

Two, one at yahoo and another at hotmail. Yahoo is used for personal correspondences and for livejournal notifications and hotmail is used exclusively for SDMB subscriptions. Neither gets spam. ---

1. two yahoo - my regular one and one I use when I don’t want to give my regular address. a university one. I only use it to recieve e-mail. never send. a hotmail one so I can use MSN, but sometimes get/send e-mail there too. And a [collegeclub.com](http://collegeclub.com). Which now just sits collecting junk mail. ---

Two at any one time: - I’ve never felt the need to have more than one home email address, so it changes when I go from one ISP to another. - And one work email address. ---

At work I have one email address, which of course is only used within my workplace. At home I have my main ISP address and one Hotmail address. Total: 3
