That’s how he’s always prepared.
My students say that a lot. Especially after I give them their final in Advanced Operations:
Give them a 486/33 laptop, 8 meg, 125mb drive preloaded with MS-DOS 6x. I/O is limited to serial, parallel, kb, and vga (no floppy, cd, nic, usb, irda, pcmcia, modem, etc). Give them a pile of db- and db25 connectors, pins, wire, and a current-model desktop that has access to the Internet. The school’s software library is also available. The school’s parts pile is also available (except that there are no laptop-exclusive parts in the pile). Students have 5 days to get a stable platform with Windows 9x, a powerpoint viewer, and a 15 page powerpoint presentation running well enough for one of the med students down the hall to successfully use.
