> I’ll go ahead and share some more movie ideas I have:
>
> **5/16** : _Loose Change_ from an alternate universe. If you’ve seen Loose Change, you know the engaging way in which the filmmakers tell their story; step by step, they bring up a facet of what happened on 9/11, and then after each step they tell us what _really_ happened (“on 9/11 the government tells us terrorists hijacked 4 planes- but what really happened was the planes landed in Cleveland and the government flew drones into the targets”, etc.).
>
> Imagine an alternate universe in which the U.S. was attacked on May 16th, 2001, not September 11th, and the attack was much more complex and wild than even 9/11 was. Now imagine that a group of young filmmakers in this alternate world made a Loose Change-type documentary about what _really_ happened on 5/16. Then imagine you (in this universe) watched their documentary. As you sat and watched, the filmmakers would proceed step by step to tell you what supposedly happened on 5/16, and step-by step tell you what really happened on 5/16 (example: “on 5/16 the government tells us Wrigley Field was gassed by Iranian and Pakistani terrorists- but what really happened was the US government hired Chinese nationals to escort all the spectators into an underground cavern and then filled the stadium with prosthetic human dummies and harmless water vapors”).
>
> As you watch, you get two great stories you’ve never heard, the story of what supposedly happened on 5/16 (which you have never heard, since you live in this universe not theirs) and the story of what really happened (so the filmmakers claim). Quite a mind-bending experience, no?
>
> Unlike Loose Change, 5/16 has cinematic production values, special effects, and dramatic reenactments of the events.
>
> A little sick, but hey, so’s _Saw_.
>
> **Christ! The True Story** : I think the world is ready for a big-screen highly irreverent telling of the gospel story of the life of Jesus Christ. Sure, _Life of Brian_ did something similar 30 years ago, but Python’s film wasn’t about Christ really it was about a Christ-type guy named Brian. Plus, Christ! The True Story contains material you wouldn’t believe (scatological, sexual, anachronistic pop references, swearing, et al).
>
> Maybe I could get Mel Gibson to fund it…
>
> **Last Man on Earth** : Comedy about a moron who thinks he’s survived an apocalypse and is the last man on earth, but really everyone else is still there and nothing bad happened, he just doesn’t realize it because of a series of misunderstandings and because he’s a moron who’s seen Mad Max one too many times.
>
> **Pulling Cable** : ‘Pulling cable’ is a film industry term for lugging cables and equipment around a movie set, something the grunts do during a film production; but in the title of this dark comedy, it takes on new meaning, as in ‘Yanking cables out of a production to sabotage it.’ Two guys who are tired of pulling cable on other guys’ films and realize they’ll never be a director themselves decide to leave the industry, but before they do they join the production of one last movie, some overblown vapid 500 million production by a talentless Michael Bay-type director, just so they can sabotage the production in every way possible. I’ll let you imagine all the ways they attempt to do this.
>
> **Outer Space Ocean Movie** : Great title, huh? Not really, it’s not a real title yet, just a description of a good 3D family adventure film about a group of astronauts who fly to another planet so they can explore the ocean on that planet. There’s almost no mention in other-planet/alien movies about what the ocean might be like on that planet/alien world, so I think it’s an original idea. Tons of weird stuff happens, storms and creatures and underwater civilizations and volcanoes and such.
>
> **Trivial** : dark comedy about a man who will do anything to win on a trivia game show, ala Jeopardy!
>
> **Knox Gold** : Three guys attempt to steal the gold at Fort Knox, but find out it’s really buried under the Meade County Bank in Muldraugh, Kentucky (a small town located on the Fort; the bank there is designed in real life to look like the bullion depository building on Fort Knox), so they steal it.

Hardly anyone has responded to these ideas- are they good in your mind?

I’m shocked at how few responses I’ve gotten in this thread. They say ‘everyone has a script’- what’s yours about?

With all the movie and t.v. buffs in Café Society, there’s GOT to be more ideas out there. Come one guys, I’ve put my balls on the line by sharing all my ideas, now grow some balls like mine and share yours.

Or better yet- are there any websites where people share their ideas for movies and t.v. shows? I’m not talking about fanfiction, I’m talking about their own ideas. If not, such a site should be created, preferably one that protects those shared ideas with some kind of legal red tape so if anyone takes the idea the original contributor is protected somehow.

I’m also shocked that I’m just about the only person to start a thread on this topic in the history of SDMB. I searched for threads about movie ideas, and found only a handful ([http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php?searchid=10270651](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php?searchid=10270651)), and none but mine are really about sharing real ideas for movies.

Although I just found this thread: [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=3436729#post3436729](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=3436729#post3436729)

Well, _I_ didn’t.

They’re only similar in the same way _Iron Man_ is similar to _The Rocketeer_, or _Titanic_ is similar to _The Poseidon Adventure_.

I liked it when it was called _The Fall Guy_.

**Caddyshack 3: School Daze** - Danny Noonan’s hijinx in clasrooms and on the university golf team. Danny’s competition here is an insecure freshman who carries a pet chameleon everywhere, a chameleon which is more active whenever its owner is aroused. The freshman vows to beat Danny in a big tournament after Danny, fed up with the guy’s continual stream of easily answered questions regarding campus life, tells the guy off.

When I was younger, I had this idea for a **Godzilla** movie.

An antagonist monster shows up who’s 2-3x the size of Godzilla. The new monster is intelligent and can talk. All of Godzilla’s attacks are useless against this massive monster who can strategize.

Godzilla must convince the other monsters, including regular enemies (King Ghidorah, Gigan, MechaGodzilla) to help him out.

**Slouching Towards Bethlehem** : A movie about the human race struggling to get through the early-to-mid 21st century and get to the better future (the Singularity, immortality, et al). A movie about all those who die and don’t make it, and all those who survive and do (sort of a secular Left Behind), and all the tragedies of life before the Singularity (confusion, delusion, accidents, death, suffering, wasted potential, etc.).

Make a cable miniseries out of Heinlein’s _Methuselah’s Children_, and don’t fuck it up. Don’t dumb it down à la _The Dome_ to appeal to the elementary school crowd or to adults with less brains than God promised a poodle. Do not cast Zooey Deschanel in the role of Mary Sperling. Keep it as real as you can within budget, and don’t sugarcoat the fact that humans are perfectly willing to torture and kill an entire society for personal gain, and justify doing so by avering that they had it coming to them. Stick to the book as closely as humanly possible.

Oh, speaking of these fine fellows, a friend and I once tried to come up with a sports movie using a sport that hasn’t been done before. We were surprised to find that was almost impossible, even the [most](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0263734/combined) [obscure](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090112/combined) [sports](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1563704/combined) have movies. So we came up with amateur darts, and involving a plot where a guy gets into serious debt with the local crime syndicate (after getting a loan to buy an expensive engagement ring) and have to win a darts match to pay them back. And we imagined it being cast with Simon and Nick.

I just learned that if the sun went supernova it would take 8 minutes for people on earth to realize it.

**8 Minutes on Earth** : The film shows us the same 8 minute period in the lives of different people/groups and what they do their last (unknown to be last) 8 minutes before life changes/they all die. 120 minute film divided by 8 = 15 characters/groups. Maybe the movie should be 90 minutes, so it’s only about 11 people/groups, minus whatever time I spend in the movie _before_ the sun goes supernova (opening scene of scientists in a lab explaining what happens if the sun goes supernova, then they see it happen).

Um…that’s not how it works. The sun goes supernova - in 8 minutes, everyone realizes it for about a millisecond, because “realizing” it also coincides with “the Earth being engulfed by the supernovaed Sun”.

So in reality, you’d have to show what people are doing for that 10 millisecond period between “realizing the Sun has gone supernova” and “dying in a blazing inferno”. Your 120 minutes will likely entail a lot of screaming.
