How many keys do you take with you?

Only one copy, and it’s on my chain. My car is pretty crappy on the inside (good engine, though) and the driver’s side lock was eaten by dogs, so the only possible way to lock it, as the driver, is to use the key as you’re exiting.

I do carry jumper cables, as I’ve left the lights on more than once.

I only carry one, but my folks have a copy in case anything were to happen. They also have a copy of my house key.

Hey, I have no criticism for them. It took me a long time to learn the lesson myself.

Back when keys were cheap, I would always tape a key to the inside of my driver’s side front hubcap.

My gf recently locked her keys in her truck when she got home from work. She called AAA and they sent someone right out to open it, no charge.

I don’t lock my car.

For approximately the last five years, since my partner lost the spare, there has existed only one key to my car. You can’t lock the driver’s door without it (unless you closed the door, then crawled across from the passenger side and pushed down the thing). We also don’t have a spare key to the house. My car key and house key are on the same ring, which I carry every day into a place where I know such things are regularly stolen. I should really get round to going and getting some more keys cut…

Sigh, I thought this poll would be about how many different keys you carried with you (car key, house key, building key, apartment key, mailbox key, suitcase key, flash key etcetera.)

I don’t have a car, so I keep zero car keys with me.

One on a key ring with too many keys, and one in my wallet.

Once in a while, I like to leave my key ring in the locked car, and only carry my wallet. It saves me the noise/bulk in the pocket (think hunting/swimming for examples of both), and the hassle of removing one from my ring, and putting it in my wallet.

One. I have OnStar. If I lock my keys in the car, I can have it unlocked with a phone call.

I have multiple copies of my important keys in case they are lost, but I do not carry them with me. ('Cause I would lose them.)

The idea of carrying around an extra car key is so strange to me… it’d be like hearing that someone carries an extra set of socks around with them in case they step in a puddle.

So, one key only.

But I wear two pairs of underwear.

(not really.)

Me, too. Start one. On Monday. I’ll answer.

I currently only carry one but used to carry a spare in my wallet when the kids were still living at home.

Can only recall one time (non-kid related) I locked my keys in the car since having vehicles with the remote locks - still not sure how that instance occurred. I was at a gas station in St. Louis, got out to fill the tank and the door locked. I’ve always figured they was possibly another car nearby that operated on the same frequency, but that’s only a theory…

I carry three keys, but not because I lose them a lot – I’ve never lost a car key. I carry one spare (just in case…) and one I can give to the car maintenance people or valet.

It’s nice to have a choice of two keys for giving to people: valet gets the special valet key, but the guys rotating my tires get a regular key so they can put air in the spare tire. (I keep my own key at all times.)

My car takes a screwdriver. I keep an extra in the trunk, which can be popped with a button.

Yep I’m serious. I could lock the front doors but the back ones are busted so I don’t even bother. It’s an open invitation for anyone to steal my car, but I gotta get around and I can’t afford to fix it. Actually my car’s broke down right now so thieves would be disappointed.

ANYWAY…when I didn’t have to deal with all this I kept a spare in my purse and one at home, plus my Mig kept a copy of all our keys.

My car keys are huge. It’s not painfully easy to carry a spare. I already have too many keys.

My car won’t lock if a door is open, so it’s hard to lock my keys in it. I lock it I either have to press a button on the fob or stick the key in the lock and turn it. I suppose I could turn the car on and climb out the window, then reach in to hit the switch to close the window. If I give the switch a good tug the window goes up or down all the way on its own.

The Dope never ceases to amaze. The idea of carrying a second car key on a second key ring all day every day is bizarre. In terms of risks to be prepared for, that ranks down around number 500 on my list.

I carry one, and only one. And I lock my car by pressing the button on the big key head as I walk away. Kinda hard to lock the keys in the car with that habit.

My first 20 years of driving were before those were invented, and I still never locked a key in a car, nor lost a key ring. I *always *have the key in my hand, and make a conscious checklist item to see, feel, and *notice *them before closing any door or trunk. Which is how I got through those first 20 years and also avoided locking my wife’s non-eletronic keys in her car for the last 15.

When my wife and I go out together locally the non-driver rarely carries any keys. If we take a driving trip out of town, we’ll bring both our sets just in case, but the non-driver’s set will be in a suitcase at the hotel, not with us.

Will it work if your vehicle is indoors (garage)? I’ve noticed my GPS can’t acquire a satellite until I drive out of the garage.

The locking and unlocking is based on them making a call or SMS message to the cellphone in the OnStar device and sending it the unlock code. GPS is only needed for them to locate the car. If you know your car is in your garage, the fact their HQ can’t get the car’s lat/long isn’t real important.

Only one key on me and one under the bumper frame. The car isn’t really worth stealing so I don’t worry about it.

I do like my electronic door-locking device - now, if I could only find a way for it to let me lock the car while it’s running so I can warm it up a little on -30º days…
