I take two crazy pills for my brain, another pill to help me sleep since the crazy pills keep me awake, and another one for my allergies.
I answered 2, but it’s more like 2.5, on average. Daily atenolol as a migraine prophylactic, albuterol 3-4 times per week (before strenuous exercise) and a fiber gummy supplement as needed (3-4 times per week).
One daily, Celebrex, to help comabt psoriatic arthritis. I am on an every other week injection for the psoriasis proper, but didn’t know how to count that.
One for gout and four for my heart/BP.
Injection (Methotrexate?) Sounds v unpleasant. As an alternative, Narrow-band UVB works wonders. I have psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, (and gout) but I only got into the Narrow Band treatment because of a massive attack of Eczema. It knocked out all the psoriasis at the same time.
NBUVB an awful lot healthier than Celebrex and uber nasties like Methotrexate. Celebrex has a non-zero chance of giving you a heart attack - similar to, but not as bad as Vioxx. I now reserve Celebrex for non-gout arthritis flares only, and then only sparingly.
And long term UVB treatment has a non-zero chance of causing skin cancers. There is no treatment without side effects. Besides, as with any light treatment all affected areas must be exposed equally to have any benefit so I’m going to need you to build me an enclosed, full body NUVB booth.
Nah, I think I’ll stick with my dermatologist’s plan.
One everyday… BP meds.
On occasion (like if I eat too late or get heartburn) I take some famotidine (generic Pepcid), but that’s not an everyday thing- maybe 2-3 times a week at most.
During April and May I take loratadine (generic Claritin) every morning due to seasonal allergies, but the other 10 months of the year I don’t take anything allergy-related.
I’ll count two supplements that have been prescribed by my doctor, but not the ones I just choose to take. Ropinirole, Tramadol, naproxen, lanzoprazole, hydroxychloroquine, salbutamol, seretide, beclomethasone, iron, paracetamol (supposed to help the tramadol), aspirin every couple of days (because of the heart defect), plus weekly methotrexate and folic acid, monthly steroid injections, occasional oral steroids. Currently I’m on yet another round of antibiotics too.
Very occasionally I rebel and refuse to take anything for a few days. I’m finding it very hard to swallow them these days.
2 anti-seizure meds, but it would be nice if they did the job. I’ve taken up to four different kinds of medication before.
I take mefloquine ( a Malaria prophylaxis ) once a week but that’s it.
Xyrem and Provigil for narcolepsy. OTC naproxen for arthritis. I used to take Ritalin, but now that Provigil’s come down in price and there’s a generic, I’ve switched over.
