The crucial difference is that the people you are talking about are easily dismissed as fundie fanatics, FOX News watching knuckleheads, etc. They don’t have my intelligence, wit, style, debating ability, or dispassionate restraint. They provide amusing fodder to reinforce the CW viewpoints. And they are easily categorized into neat little boxes. Whereas I threaten that whole edifice, and that drives them up the wall (the same reason so much fury is directed against my hero Sam Harris).
