More girls than boys, I’ll bet. I’m pretty much a loner unless I’m in Germany. There I have my best friend, Peter. Of course my wife and son are my “best” friends, and so are the grands, but that isn’t really what I mean. I guess I mean someone who you don’t have to call before you come over or on who doesn’t mind bailing you out of jail. That kinda thing. Thanks Quasi ---

I don’t think I have “_a_” best friend. I have maybe half-a-dozen people I would consider my closest friends, and they are half men, half women. No, wait, I don’t mean they are “half men/half women” in a circus sideshow way . . . Only Josephine Joseph is. ---

I have two people in my life outside of family that I consider my closest friends and at various times I’d have considered myself a bit closer to one than the other; right now, it’s about the same. One is male, one is female. My relationship with both is even very similar in the types of things we share. ---

No. I used to have one, but he moved to New Orleans many years ago. The friends I’m making these days are almost all women, though I also hang out with their husbands and boyfriends. ---

Your BEST friend won’t be able to bail you out of jail because he’ll be in there with you saying, “Man! That was a blast!” I’m a dude who has about 1 dude I’d call my best friend. I’d always call before coming over, though, because he’s about an hour away and pretty busy. Plus he’s got a bunch of kids now and it’s just not courteous to pop in unannounced and expect him to dop everything to come out and play. There is another guy I haven’t laid eyes on in 16 years–He’d totally bail me out of jail, and if I were to drop in on him unexpectedly he’d be unable to do so because he’d be in there with me saying, “Man! That was a blast!” ---

Except for my wife, all my “best friends” are guys. I swap email with them but rarely get with them in person. That list includes my brother and three others who would take me in (or I would take them in) if something dreadful happened to one or the other of us. ---

I’m a girl, but for the most part my closest friends are male. My future husband is the person I’m absolutely closest to, but even my best friend who isn’t a romantic interest is a guy. ---

These days I have different friends for different things but no “best” friend since my wife took over that role. I do have a couple of old friends that used to be best that would bail me out if my wife woudn’t do it for some reason. They might even help me dispose of the body. On the other hand, they would not appreciate me dropping by without calling first. Their wives would give me and them the stink-eye. ---

No - I’ve been best friends with a woman I’ve known for, oh, 26 years. :eek: She’s godmother to my kid and I was recently the “male bridesmaid” at her wedding. 😃 ---

Not counting my real best friend (who I married), I don’t know that I have a “best friend”. I’m close friends with several guys, some of whom I’d drop everything to help out if they called me in an emergency, and I’m pretty sure they’d do the same for me. But of those guys, I find some of them irritating in a way that makes me glad we don’t live that close, because I think if we hung out too often we’d quickly become permanently pissed at each other for any number of things. ---

My best friend is a female. I’ve known her since fourth grade and we have been best friends since tenth grade. She isn’t a highly feminine person - not really butch either, more kind of androgynous.
