I used to enjoy this comedian’s slapstick comedy–well, most of it, anyway. And for people isolated as I am the titillation of the sexy young women who appeared with Benny–and even one older woman was appealing, after a fashion–I considered it priceless. And now he’s gone, these last eight years. ☹ Are there others among the Teeming Millions to whom Benny Hill appealed? ---

My father, for one, loves Benny Hill. Last year I got him the complete videotape series of the show and he was absolutely thrilled. Enough slapstick and boobies to last forever. I remember seeing a few episodes of Benny Hill’s show on cable many many years ago. I don’t remember much about it, but I remember being entertained. The sort of sense of humor I have (i.e. that aspect of my personality that makes me idolize Charlie McCarthy) means I probably would be a fan of Hill’s if I had more exposure ot him. I hated it. Never thought any of it was even remotely humorous. I liked it in kind of a disgusting way. The same way I like Married with Children, Beavis, Howard Stern, and South Park. It’s like, I can’t believe they are doing this on tv! Some parts are very funny and witty, but some parts are disgusting. Benny was especially interesting since he is British. It’s a side of the British we don’t see much. ---

I remember my father having it on when I was around 12 or so, and thinking it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. When I saw it again about 7 years later, I couldn’t figure out what in the world I had thought was so funny. It still has a certian nostalgic appeal for me, though. ---

Hey, Zette! You stole those lyrics from a band called “Sweet” who wrote “Love Is Like Oxygen”. Changing one word doesn’t help. At least give some credit where credit is due! Benny Hill was suggestive and creative. His approach was novel. The humor required a little thought processing by the viewer. In contrast, today’s shows are just crude. Mentioning Benny Hill in the same gendre as Howard Stern et al. is definitely incorrect. Any Joe off the street can be vulgar. Howard Stern et al. come a dime a dozen. ## Benny’s a classic! He who laughs last…missed the joke! ---

Personally, I never quite liked it, but I think it is fair to say that the humour in all the skits was VERY straightforward and VERY simple. Hence the mass appeal. Benny Hill never really did or said anything improper…it’s all inside your dirty little minds! That’s the power of suggestion! When I was a kid, I loved to watch Benny Hill late night on WOR (channel 9). I wonder if they were bowlderized from the original BBC version. Do they show actual bare tits on your videotapes?
