I take everybody seriously, as long as they post thoughtfully and intelligently. Where I usually look it posting history is when people _aren’t_ posting intelligently. I’ll glance at their post count, thinking, “Is this someone I should know?” (I’m terrible at names.) If they have a low post count, I think, “Oh. Newbie. I hope they go away soon.” Otherwise, I think, “Huh. Longtime poster. Probably not going to go away.” At that point, I invest the mental effort of remembering the person, and what a tool they are. So it really works out to a nice probationary period, when you think about it. Unless you’re conspicuously obnoxious, you don’t get on my bad side until you’ve got 400 posts or so. ---

I hardly notice post count unless a poster makes a particulary outrageous statement. Then depending on the post count, I will chalk it up to newbieness or potential trolling or someone who should know better, and deal with it accordingly. ---

For the record, anyone know who has the most posts of all, or if there is a way to find out? I’ve been here for about six months now, and there are only a few people who I remember off the top of my head: Eve (16,324 posts) and Liberal (20,948 posts) tend to get drawn into long debates that tend to be interesting. Chronos (11,778 posts) because I am a physics geek and he posts on that subject a lot. 1010101101010101 because it’s a very unique user name, hard not to notice. Kel Varnsen (1088 posts) because people seem to have issues with him. And fetus (981 posts) because he took issue with my “Pure and Upstanding” thread. I guess that’s an argument for people with a lot of posts. ---

I don’t know about taken seriously, but a good way to get known is to do something memorable, like our good friend **Giraffe** here and **Hot Buttered Toast** (if she’s still around).
