I drop my phone a couple times per year tops, and despite using no cases ever, it rarely breaks on impact.

I drop my phone a couple times per year tops, and despite using no cases ever, it rarely breaks on impact.
Twice for me, once for my husband.
In both of mine, the phone slipped out of my hand and fell onto pavement, ever so helpfully turning screen down during descent.
I’ve also broken one tablet (it fell off the bathroom counter and flipped screen-down on its way to the floor), but that screen didn’t break. The internals of the tablet took that hit.
Never broken a cell phone screen.
I have destroyed a hard case that the phone was in - which was the point of the hard case, to protect the phone.
I do have a screen protector on mine. Never had to replace that, either, although the current one is getting old enough that I might, as it is slightly scratched and otherwise showing wear.
Yeah, I used to be like you, never buying a phone case because I didn’t like the extra bulk. Then I ended up breaking my phone screen like twice in two weeks so now I’m all about the case and the screen protector.
Only once, but it’s not shattered. Just a hairline crack and still works seamlessly at 99.99%. I can only barely see it at certain angles.
As mentioned upthread, I did break my phone’s glass backside by dropping it. Of course it was a new phone about 4 days old at the time.
The phone it had just replaced was 3+ years old and had no significant scratches on it. I only replaced it because I was changing carriers for unrelated reasons.
As phones have become all glass in the last ~10 years they’ve gotten both slipperier and more fragile. My phone now has one of those stick-on credit card carriers on the back. Those are either grippy rubber or fabric. Whichever, they certainly make the phone a lot less juggle-prone.
Never. And unlike several other people who claim to be very careful with their phones, I accidentally drop mine frequently.
One memorable time I stood up quickly to rush off to a meeting and lost my grip on my phone, accidentally throwing it at my glass desk. Neither the phone nor the desk was any worse for wear, to the great shock of both me and my office-mate who also witness its flight through the air.
twice, once while carrying bags in, slipped out of my hand about 4 feet, landed screen down dead flat on concrete. another time, I cant quite remember how, I think it fell off a chair onto a tile floor. both times I had a decent semi-rigid plastic case. Recently, a very near miss. my phone flew out of my hand down a flight of stairs, about 10 feet in the air, landed screen down on a stair (no carpet, wood) and absolutely zero damage. I thought it was a goner for sure.
I replaced the battery in my earlier phone (iphone 6) but it was so tedious that when my screen broke, I didn’t think twice about taking it to the repair shop either time.
Apologies, but the imagined visual of that cracks me up. Why won’t…YOU…CLOSE!!! I do that sort of shit all the time.
I always carry my phones in a slim leather flip folio case, mostly in my breast pocket. I fumble and drop it a short distance a couple-few times a year, but oddly enough I’ve never had one crack.
No need to apologize, I found it funny as fuck. I mean, okay, had to buy a new phone and downgraded to the first gen SE, but I enjoy boneheaded moments like that! (Why else would I have memorialized it?) I try not to make a habit of it, though.
Another Bendgate victim.
