# How much did your upbringing determine your politics?

Depends on how you interpret the question. Not at all if you go by what political party my parents vote for. But it’s pretty much how I was raised as a Christian that led me to be liberal. The only thing holding me back was abortion, but [good ol’ Uncle Cece](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2817/when-does-human-life-begin) helped out with that.

In fact, to this day, I think most of my Republican friends are only that way due to ignorance. I’m not saying you can’t be a smart Republican, but their values align much more with the Democrats, except in a couple areas that the GOP has no intent on actually fixing.

Like, for instance, this bullshit about defunding Planned Parenthood, after an obviously emotionally manipulative video and a complete lack of understanding of what we actually pay them to do.
