I noticed that you factor in the tailoring… I don’t think I’ve ever bought a casual item at the upper level of my price range that needed tailoring- generally my rationale for buying is how well they fit, and then that mitigates the price (to some extent)! ---

I am not even kidding. Plato’s Closet! I will not buy my jeans anywhere else. I never pay more than $20.00 for Levi’s, Lucky Brand, Gap, Aeropostale, etc. I never would’ve dreamed that I could afford those brands (especially Lucky!) The clothes are VERY gently worn; the jeans are already at that perfect comfort level! Seriously, check it out! ---

I’ve got jeans from Target that I love that I got for $8 from the sale rack and I have a bunch of Diesel that were worth $150 a pair that I got on deep discount from a buddy who worked there for around $45 a pair. The most I ever paid was right at the advent of the “cat whiskers” phase of wrinkled and frayed jeans when I paid, ahem, $200 for a pair of Kenneth Cole jeans that I’ve had for years now and I still love them even though my balls are starting to wear through them. ---

[/QUOTE] At least around here, Nordstrom is considerably more high end than Macy’s. As an infrequent shopper, maybe you didn’t realize the difference between these two department stores. Macy’s sells some “just regular clothes,” Nordstrom sells stuff to make a fashion statement, and it’s priced accordingly. ---

good grief! i go to off price stores, daffys, ross, burlington, etc. i don’t pay more than 20 dollars for pants. i work around copier and machines, i don’t get reimbursed for clothes damage. my best bargain, was 3.99 for a pair of jeans at christopher and banks. they have lovely sales. ---

For example, Calvin Klein flared stretch jeans dark wash at [Nordstrom.com](http://Nordstrom.com) is 79.50. The same item at [Macys.com](http://Macys.com) is 69.00. Neither were noted as being a sale price. ---

We women tend to be either too fat or too thin for most of our jeans, and then the jeans all end up at Goodwill. The vast majority of them are in excellent shape, in fact, they’re better than new because they’re a little broken in. I find Liz Claiborne’s, L. L. Bean, DKNY, Eddie Bauer, Levi’s, Lee’s, you name it. I kill two birds with one stone: I bring in all my jeans that don’t fit anymore and hand them over, then I go for a rummage and come away with two or three pair that fit me just perfectly right now. Saturdays is $3 for a garment at my local Goodwill. ---

I actually need a new pair of jeans but I’m avoiding it because I hate shopping for pants. I’m short, so unless the brand has a petite section I have to get them hemmed. I’m also picky, so the whole thing ends up taking forever. The last pair I bought were $130 I think, and the average pair of jeans I see are around $60-80. ---

I like Levi jeans because they look stylish, are pretty rugged and about $30 -$60 which is what I consider reasonable. A lot of cheap jeans just look cheap and wierd. I don’t know why but I don’t mind paying $100+ for a nice shirt but I don’t like paying for expensive $200 Diesel jeans. Maybe I just feel you get more bang for your style buck with shirts and shoes. ---

My friend, who happens to be gay, is trying to convince me I need to buy some diesel jeans. My jeans - if I wear jeans - generally get ruined quickly. I do not need to spend $200+ for a pair of jeans, no matter how nice my ass looks. ---

I’ve seen that in really low end grandma jeans (like the kind with elastic in the waistband), but nowhere else. If this isn’t a woosh, could you link to a picture of what you’re talking about? I buy my jeans at TJmaxx when I’m visiting the States and get high-end designer jeans for $15-30. I got a pair of Lucky’s there once for $30. To the OP, if you can fit a cantalope in your waistband, I’d say the jeans didn’t fit anyway, besides being overpriced. ---

I get mine at Wal Mart lately but that’s because I’m old and fat and I really can’t get all worked up about it. My youngest has had good luck lately with JC Penney, in the misses department, so we’re looking at somewhere in the $20 to $25 range, depending on sales. We tend to stick with what fits, since it’s hard to find that in the first place. So now I can order for her from the catalogue, or just get them in the store if I happen to see them on sale. Middle kid needs more length. We tried Aura from Wrangler, which was somewhere around $30 to $35, I think, but they’re a little wider in the leg than she likes. Her dad found a tall shop and bought her a couple pairs there, not any name I remember, but somewhere between $50 and $70. We bit the bullet because it’s so hard for her to find anything long enough. (If anybody had any good suggestions for 37 or so inseams, I’d be happy to hear them.)
