How much does it cost to get a suit tailored

I still don’t see what is wrong with using a stapler to take 6" off the waist. I can pretend i’m starting a fashion statement with it.

As far as ebay, some sellers are willing to sell you a different size pant with the suit. I don’t see why I cant just get all my measurements taken (inseam, chest, waist, shoulders, arm) at a suit distributor and buy any suit that corresponds to these measurements. Some ebay sellers have 30 day return policies too.

Been done years ago: zoot suits.

I agree. Definitely post pictures if you decide to do this yourself, particularly if you use staples to hold it together. And let us know how the job interviews go when you walk in wearing a suit that’s been stapled together.

Think for a moment about why good suits are relatively expensive. It’s in part because it’s not easy to fit them properly, and it takes SKILL to alter them so you don’t look like a kid dressed up in Dad’s clothes.

Interesting coinciedence. Earlier this week I purchased a sewing machine to bring in the waste of a pair of wool pants that I have already skied in for a season with the waist tied in by with a shoe lace pulling together the front two belt loops. I figured that sooner or later the shoe lace or one of the belt loops would give, so I finally got around to fixing it. (I use oversize pants for telemark skiing so that I can wear hard knee pads inside them, so that the pant cuff can fit over the boot tops, and so that the pants are not too tight on my thighs. Unfortunately, that results in pants that are several inches too big at the waist.)

Wesley you seem like the kind of young man who’s constantly looking for an innovative solution rather than falling back on the same old boring easy way out that the men’s ready-to-wear industry has stubbornly relied on for the last - oh - 125 years or so.

So let’s try an ez’n’fun very low-cost experiment. Go find a pair of boxer shorts that are six inches too big. Pin up that excess material and wear them around for a couple of days.

Report back. We’ll be anxiously awaiting your findings.

A fellow from my rugby team tried that for a season, only wearing the stapled-in boxers as a hat rather than as pants.
