We recently had a garage sale and donated all the leftovers to Goodwill, so we don’t have anything that’s excess, unless you count the furniture my daughter is storing while she lives at home. She moved home in May and plans to move out next June, so I guess you could call that furniture excess at the moment: bed, dresser, desk, TV.
No excess in the sense of cluttered spaces or stuff in storage.
But compared to any rational standard of “need”, we have too much stuff in too large a house. I was appalled to count that for my family of two adults, we own 45 ordinary chairs or stools, plus a half dozen folding camp chairs. Plus couches seating 10 comfortably. Plus cars seating 8 total.
We must *really *like sitting.
I counted light bulbs for another thread 6 months ago and was likewise appalled.
