How much have YOU typed in reply to a post before deciding against it?

Oh yeah, I’ve typed darn near novel-length posts a couple times before coming to my senses and hitting the BACK button. I’ve learned not to even get that far now, I just type a quick post and file it ‘done’.

An aside; ever type a magnificent post, a lengthy rebuttal of the first order, verified all your cites, checked and re-checked for typos, looked at the clock, realized it’s darn near 2 am and thought, oh please, oh please, oh please let my post take as you hit that submit reply button only to have overnight maintenance shut you down…
NOOOOOOOOO!:frowning:

I find writing replies and then not submitting them to be a great cathartic. I’ll read a message that gets my ire up, write a blistering reply telling that ^&(!! in no uncertain terms that he/she doesn’t know what the %^&()!! he/she is talking about - and then kill the reply without submitting anything. There we go - now I feel a lot better and I haven’t annoyed anybody.

Numerous 500 word posts. Mostly in GD, some in the Pit.

I’ve lurked this board for years.
See my stats?
I cannot tell you how many times I was (slowly) forming responses, only to have a respected SDMB pro say exactly what I was thinking in the meantime.

I’d bet there are a lot of people out there like me …
