We government employees get 2-4% of our annual income…sometimes nothing at all. I’m getting 2% this year. First time in about three years that I’m getting a bonus.
I’ve mentioned in several other threads how much I love my new job at a non-profit, but I’ve got to give them huge kudo’s again. Yesterday was our last day of work before our two week Christmas break (we follow the public school schedule) and we had a wonderful snick-snick laden gathering at our Directors home, with mimosas and wine. Then, as an added neat-o, we received a generous Christmas bonus!!
I’m not sure how the dollar amount was figured, but mine amounted to 20% of my monthly salary. Very impressive IMHO, and very, very appreciated. Frankly, any dollar amount would have tickled me pink.
The last time I actually worked for a company, I got a Christmas bonus that amounted to about a day and a half’s pay, along with a mug filled with Hershey’s kisses. I was delighted. The company I worked for before that gave us a “turkey gift certificate” that we could use at a particular grocery store. You couldn’t actually buy a whole turkey with it, though, since it was good for up to ten dollars towards a turkey. And given that I’m a vegetarian, it wasn’t just exactly what I’d always wanted.
This year, I got two excellent “Christmas bonuses.” I volunteer one afternoon every other week at my daughter’s high school, and they gave all their volunteers a 1.45 oz. Hershey’s Kiss and a $15 gift certificate to a local coffee shop. I also teach aerobics at a local Y one morning a week, and they gave me a $10 Wal-Mart gift card along with my last check (which was for $11.45 after taxes). Not bad for not really being employed anywhere, eh?
Ugh. I got something like that once. Everyone got a Christmas ham I sold mine to someone. At the same company I once won a turkey in a raffle and they refused to give me the cash equivalent. Sold that too, to the same guy who bought the ham.
This year we recieved a gift from our board (a book) and a cash bonus. For me, it worked out to roughly 2 days pay. I was a bit shocked, since we’re a non-profit. But we’ve been busting our rumps and are really breaking new ground. Unfortunately, I have to spend half of it to replace the two tires I had slashed last night.
Last year, and for a large number of years prior, the staff got a flat bonus of $1500. This year, zilch :(.
I was hired shortly after Christmas last year, so this makes it exactly zero companies I’ve worked for from which I’ve received any kind of Christmas bonus whatsoever, so it was less painful for me than the rest of the staff.
We are a non-profit directly in the line of fire of the Bush administration, and now that he’s been re-elected, there’s a good chance we’ll no longer exist unless we can find some other source of funding right quick, so I guess I can’t blame them, but still… a $5 gift card and a thank you would have been nice.
Never worked for a company that does a Christmas bonus…
The consulting firm I worked for had a great “get away for a weekend” Christmas party at a hotel…indoor pool. Meals. Nice room.
I’ve gotten profit sharing checks at that time of year.
When I had a housekeeper I gave her a Christmas gift equal to a weeks cleaning.
