The scan was negative! We now offically own a scruffy little Westie-Cairn terrier girl. She was negative for heartworm and Lymes, and has been treated with Advantix. She goes to the groomer next Tuesday. She got her shots, and will have boosters in four weeks when she goes in for her spay.
Everyone at the vet’s office fell in love with her, at one point I had to pry widdle doggie from the vet tech; who had her in a Ninja-style love grip. We have named her Toto, because she looks like a white Toto from Wizard of Oz, one of my favorite films.
Will post pics tomorrow. Thanks for the support, everyone!
Oh, and the cost of that doggie in the window? So far, $135.00.
Very happy about this outcome! I have a Westie who will be 10 soon and is the best dog ever. EVER. When I read your first post I was almost ready to hop in my car and drive from FL to CA to get your cute little gal.
You’re terrified of big dogs, and took in a large pit mix? Thank you for your kindness; the need is so great for all breeds, but probably pits and pit mixes have it worst these days.
I’m not surprised she won you over; our two girls (pit mix and straight-up American Pit Bull Terrier) did the same to us.
About 3 years ago, we took in a raggedy, scrawny, matted, pathetic little black dog. We’d seen her wandering our street for at least a month, and it was January, so we couldn’t just leave her out there. Our free little stray cost us $600 in vet bills - her belly was covered in tumors and she hadn’t been spayed. Then another chunk of change for the groomers, and we discovered we had a poodle/wiener dog mix. She’s deaf, stubborn, and my shadow. She bullies our border collie and both cats, and she’s never had it better, I tell ya!
I hope Toto gives you half the joy that Scruffy has given us!
Munch, she is a tiny dog; but the cat to her right is my 22-pound Ragdoll, Merci. Toto is half of Merci’s size, but I got a bad perpective in my photo. But they’re both adorable, and I’m good with that!
