# how much is that SDMB in the window?

So say I won the power ball for 315+ million dollars and I wanted to do something good for the SD. Well, we’ve been over the whole “can’t donate money” idea, so how about I buy the company. How much do you think Chicago Reader would sell for? I’m looking for at least one serious answer.

Well, if you can’t donate money, could you get around it by buying an SDMB product or something for an exorhbitant (sp?) amount?

Well, the _New York Press_, a weekly alternative with circulation of around 116,000, was [sold recently](http://nypost.com/business/65346.htm) for around $5 million. The average circulation for [_The Chicago Reader_](http://www.chireader.com/readerinc/aboutR.html) in 2001 was 133,449. I don’t know how comparable the two newspapers are, but that should give you a general idea.

how about if i just buy the rights to The Straight Dope. how much would that cost i wonder?
