Are you sure the decimal is in the right place? Do you split the entire rent with roomies? Do you live in a hole in the ground?

I live in a decent two bedroom pretty far outside the fancy neighborhoods on Manhattan. My rent is a gloriously low $1350 per month.

Yup…thats what I pay…we had a decent down payment.
It’s not exactly where I wanted to live, but with a payment like that, no contest really.

$1200/month - rent.
Great price for a moderately seedy apartment in
a not-so-dangerous neighborhood with hard-to-find
amenities like washer/dryer in the only-somewhat-
creepy-and-dirty basement and (drum roll, please)
off-street parking! Means little to me, since
I have no car, but I am the envy of all my friends!
Why is my rent so low? Because I haven’t moved in
5 years and my landlord likes me.
The people downstairs are paying $1600 for a smaller
space, and they have my cats galloping overhead
day in and day out.
I still haven’t told my mom what I’m actually paying,
though. She’d have a heart attack.

I just posted about this in Eve’s “Why do you live where you live?” thread, but I didn’t mention the dollar amount: $188 and change per month. The house is unfinished and out in the sticks, and we already owned half (by inheritance) when we bought the other half. (And no, it’s not a hole either – it just needs siding, trim, and finish work, but it’s plenty big.)
Dang – now that’s two people I know with a house payment lower than ours. We used to have the record!

$725.00/month for rent.
2 Bedroom, full bath and kitchen, nice size den (12x14), and a tin roof, but it’s only about 7½ feet high. Can’t wait to get out of here…

$1100 a month for a nice little house.
How about this - no money down, really good interest rate, and NO personal mortgage insurance! How? Many banks, like Bank of America, give special no-PMI loans to MD’s, Lawyers, and Engineers.
And yes, I know how paying a downpayment reduces the interest cost. My investments earn about 4-6% more than my mortgage rate, so I didn’t feel like putting any money down.

When I rented in downtown Calgary, I paid about C$625 per month (probably C$670 once parking was considered) for a sixth-floor suite.
Then I moved to Edmonton right when interest rates were low (the fact that it was the only place where I could get a job precipitated the move), and purchased my own condo. Mortgage is now about C$350 per month. Condo fees are pretty good, too.
My goal – once I’m married – is to buy a bigger house, move into it, and rent out the condo. Given the neighborhood I’m in, the rent I demand _could_ put a nice dent in my future monthly mortgage fees.
But that’s just whimsy right now. I’ll deal with the economic realities of it all in the future.

My rent actually went down from $500 to $480 a month for some reason. Well, it’s because they made me sign a lease for 9 months instead of six. For the area it’s a decent price. It’s a studio apartment, but I have room for what I need and don’t feel overtly cramped. People in my area pay half as much for twice as much space, but they are also in trailers 25 minutes away from the city here, whereas I am right inside the city and five minutes from work. Oh, and I have a washer/dryer in my apartment too!

$1650 rent for a 4-bedroom house with a generous yard, just minutes from shopping and schools. Given that we’ve got friends paying that much rent for a dinky 3-bedroom apartment, we think we’ve got it pretty good.
We’re going to be looking at a mortgage payment of about $1200/mo when we finally get around to buying one of the houses we’ve been looking at.

I am the proud resident of a glorious one bedroom with THREE closets, an internal storage space, and a deck. $450. Dirt cheap here, I was paying $375 to live in a two bedroom before. One bedrooms usually go for $550-$800+, depending on the neighborhood.

I’m thinking that people should start noting where they live when they pipe up with their answer.
As for myself, I live in lovely Lakeview, on the near north side of Chicago. I and my wife have a 1 bedroom apartment (with combined living room & dining room and seperate kitche with pantry alcove) for $950.
