I lost about $60,000 in one day (on paper) in my company’s retirement fund. The stock is actually back near where it was, plus with other contributions I am near the earlier level, from about two years ago. We’ve been doing very well lately in earnings etc, although personally I think the stock is still somewhat overvalued so I keep hedging it. But if projected earnings continue to be met it will be solid and there is no reason to expect that they won’t.
So net, I may still be out $10-20k on paper, but it’s just theoretical until the time I sell. And it’s not so bad to be able to even say that, since it means that there was that much to lose. Once upon a time having any kind of savings at all was purely hypothetical.
