In the city I live in; when I have a large pickup item I just have to call the city. They pick it up for free.
I know that’s not the case everywhere; but it’s worth a call to see how much it costs.
We don’t have any sort of free pickup in my city anymore, but my trash service will pick up unwanted furniture items on a per-piece basis. Two years ago when my old family room couch gave up the ghost, they charged me $25 to haul it away. A bit much, I thought, but the convenience factor was worth it since I live alone and don’t own or have access to a truck.
Check with your city or town. Our town picks up bulky items as part of the trash service, but we need to call to request the pickup–and we have to get the item to the curb ourselves.
