# How much to tip the cabbie?

New York Dopers (and Chicago Dopers, too, I guess) might find this hard to believe, but yesterday, I took what I’m reasonably sure is my very first cab ride ever at the age of 28. Never had the use for a cab until now.

So I had a bit of a question: What is the proper tipping procedure? Fifteen percent, like in restaurants? Less? I gave him $35 on a $31 fare.

I think 15% is the standard tip for cabbies, and no less than $1 in my opinion.
