I’ve heard that the main differences between the Interceptor and civilian models aren’t performance but durability related. The exception here is the suspention parts and mods.
I was told that there’s upgraded cooling parts (silicone coolant lines were mentioned), a larger alternator (for sitting around at idle for a few hours with 2000 watts of radios, computers and lights), a large dome light, suspention goodies, higher speed rated tires and steel rims with ‘dog dish’ hub caps.
The police package cars are considerably less expensive than the LX sport luxury trim.
I have attached a window sticker (unfortunately it is small) of a window sticker for a 2004. They’re around 25k brand new.
If anybody in CT or the tri-state would like to buy one, I’m selling mine for $4000 negotiable, it is a 1999 that needs a little front end work & doesn’t have a working speedometer.
I can’t provide a cite, but I can recall reading that the police take special note of vehicles that look like cop cars but aren’t driven by cops. They know you’re not one of them, and they will be very interested in what you’re up to.
I know you were trying to make a smarmy comment about the supposed shortcomings of the newer front-wheel drive Impalas…
However, to my knowledge, there was never a police package for the '94-'06 Chevy Impala SS. The Caprice got the copper treament.
Number 16 here explains the difference between the Police package Caprices and the Impalas.
Yeah, but the Impala SS was simply the Caprice with a supercharger and a few other enhancements (done because the Caprice was a dog performance wise and wasn’t selling well).
If you’re talking about the '94-'96ers, they never had factory superchargers. They had the LT1 engine, a 350cid with about 270 horsepower. Interestingly, for several years now, the front-drive “slow” Impalas have been beating the older rear-drive jobs in zero to sixty times. The '94-'96 fans aren’t particularly forthcoming about this fact.
Hmm, I thought they had superchargers, maybe the article I skimmed on them mentioned it as an aftermarket add-on. Frankly, I don’t care for any of the post-70s models of the Impalas.
I would rather have mine than a 9C1 Caprice. There are a few police departments that felt the same way I do. How would you like to be running from the cops and see about 5 of these in your rearview?
