How often do people report posts to the admin?

Wow, nobody was responding to ScoobyTX, so I was going to respond:

In the past, the moderators and administrators have said that the text on the report screen is vB boilerplate. Go ahead and use the report function for any reason you need to contact the mods, since it gets all the mods for the forum at once, instead of having to hunt up their emails separately.

However, Gaudere has to go and change the message. If it was that darned easy, how come nobody had changed it the 200 times before that people have asked the same question?

Speaking as an expert* on the board software:

Changing the post-reporting message is a lot like sending a probe to the outer planets. It’s only really possible when the heftier threads line up in a certain way and you can use their server storage to slingshot and increase your energy. The moderators had to wait until conditions were right, but the preparations to change the message were begun quite some time ago. They got lucky this time; the last two attemps failed miserably. The first one got caught in the attraction of the Evil Nazi Groundhogs thread, and burned up in its atmosphere. The second was infinitesimally mis-aimed, and the gravition of Very Vaguely Creepy sent it flying out of the boards in the wrong direction.

*By which I mean, ‘almost complete ignoramus’.

Eeek. I just managed to quadruple-post in one thread, and quintuple-post in another, at the same time. I reported both, because, you know, that’s a lot of extraneous posts, but I see now that there were more than a couple of duplicate posts made around the same time. I hope I’m not just causing more work for the mods.

Occasionally, when an OP is particularly stupid and unintelligible all at once, someone will “report this post” with a parody of the OP.

And there are sometimes personal references – “Bib, move this quick before manny sees it and has a heart attack!”

We get a couple a week that simply say, “spamspamspamspam” or some more elaborate reference to the famous Monty Python bit. Call me simple, but they crack me up every single time. **

Well, lessee… Uncle Beer might be a bit dangerous, and Eutychus complains that he never gets enough flirting. As I understand it, flirting with Coldfire is not only allowed but mandatory, for all female posters. Dr Matrix and Cajun Man would probably not be interested. Noodles would like to flirt, but his wife doesn’t let him, and bibliophage is just a total perv (not that there’s anything wrong with that). You’d be annihilated by Cecil’s Aura of Perfection if you tried to flirt with Him, and Ed Zotti is way too busy to have time for flirting. I assume that you’re not interested in the female moderators (and personally, I’m a little bit scared of Lynn.

There is a disturbing shortage of women mods to flirt with. I only have Tuba, Lynn, and Gaudere. (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

… was your pointing out of TVeblen as another mod, in reponse to Chronos’ “who did I miss?”, or as a female mod that I neglected to list? (As a newbie, I have no idea as to the gender of TVeblen. I clearly don’t spend enough time in IMHO.)

Nae, I didn’t forget the lovely TVeblen (I mean, she’s got to be lovely… Didn’t she used to be a librarian?), but since I was compiling the list for the benefit of vanilla, who I’m pretty sure is a hetero female, I left the female mods off the list.
