How often do you drink alcohol?

Perhaps you missed the part where a lot of these people mention that they’re drinking at home. No need to drive home if you’re already there, yes?

Methinks you’re overreacting a tad.

In that case, could you tell me where my car is? I wasn’t aware I had one.

Everything’s in walking distance and the public transit is great. Who needs to drive?

Ditto. Man, I love New York!

I typically have a bottle of scotch/whiskey/bourbon at the house, but I will only dip into it maybe once a week. But when I dip into it, I’m usually not messing around. A big oversized plastic cup – anywhere from 5-15 oz of liquor and then fill with Sprite. Or, if it is good scotch (good enough to be a sin to mix with coke/sprite), take a pint glass and give make it 80/20 scotch to water.

I will also have roughly 12-20 beers spread out over the course of the week, 2-3 with most meals that I eat out. I love the taste of good beer, and 3 beers with a good meal hits the spot. Not to get drunk – I have the body weight working against me there – just to relax.

3 glasses of chardonnay a night.

1 with dinner
2 after putting lil’ Honey to bed, while reading, SDMBing, or watching TV.

And I sleep like a baby.

I don’t have a car. There are dozens of bars within a 15-minute walk from my house. I remember the bad-old days when I had a car. I drank a lot less then.

How come no one ever suggests we solve the drunk driving problem by investing more in public transportation?

Never have. Never will. I don’t see the allure in being drunk and giving myself a ringing headache the next day. I have enough bad habits as it is.

I do believe you are the only one with a certain hair color, you just came from the mailman.

And you wonder why you are tired all the time. Not to mention the fact that a certain room has not been tiled yet. Or finished.

What about the other 2%?

I can’t really say anything since I drink my fair share, usually at least 3 or 4 beers a day, if you had to live with my girlfriend you would drink daily too. Just kidding. But when I go out to the bar it is an all out drunkfest, we are talking hundreds of dollar beer tabs. And when me and Hans go out together its just plain nuts. Thankfully i live in another town, eh?

Hmm, I get the feeling us Europeans have a different view of booze to those of you across the pond. It is not unusual (in fact I would say almost every night) for my SO and myself to demolish 2 or 3 (rarely 3) bottles of good red wine between us. As a an example (God, am I propagating the myth of the Brits as a bunch of pissheads here) 1 Litre of Vodka and 750ML of Gin were consumed between 3 of us on Friday. I am 25, a student and facing final exams, and my girlfriend does a 9-5 managerial job. I get the feeling we are not out of the ordinary, but we do mix with students lol.

Merrin

I’m a college student, and I know that’s not an excuse , but the joke at school is that “We’re a drinking town with a college problem.”

However, my friends and I do tend to drink a lot (when we all have the money to). My roommates and I would have a daiquiri night at least once a week in the middle of the week and it isn’t unusual for us to be playing a game of Asshole on the weekends.

But, I haven’t done much drinking in a while (I’ve been really sick) and considering that last night I nursed a friend after a very rough night of heavy drinking I don’t think I am going to be drinking very much any time soon.

depends.

i’m only 19 remember (20 tomorrow, and 18 is legal in ireland), and a little girl at that.

i will drink a glass of wine or two/can of beer on my own in front of the tv maybe once a week.

i will drink a pint of stout/g&t/glass of wine or two with my girlies once a week after anatomy lab.

i will drink 3 glasses of wine with a meal if i eat out or eat at my parents home. maybe once every 3 weeks.

i will go out, get drunk ( tipsy, staggering- sorry, dancing, slurring drunk. NOT puking/passing out drunk) maybe once every three weeks. even so, my limit for an evening is 20 euros (about $15) on drink. i might get 4 or 5 drinks for that, certainly not much more.

i’m well within my limits, know what i’m doing and always drink with a purpose…not just to get drunk.

you know that as an adult male you can drink up to 28 units of alcohol a week? that is 14 pints of beer, or 4 bottles of wine, or 28 shots of hard liqour?
2 six packs of short cans is 12 units, tall cans would be 24 units.

you’re not an alcoholic. not even close.

trust me, if you start drinking vodka in the morning or drinking 2 six packs a DAY you can worry.

I’m drunk right now.
Hi, Irishgirl.

What does this mean?

I do drink quite a bit (more since my marriage ended a couple of months ago). I’d say 5-6 beers on an average night. Usually a couple more a night on the weekends. However, I almost never get hangovers (it probably takes twice my average to make that happen); it’s not body weight (I’m only 155), but I do have a high tolerance. I don’t get belligerent, I usually don’t get weepy, I just get relaxed.

Hey, it’s Montana! Sometimes there’s dog-all else to do up here!

Well at least one glass of wine or beer every night, but today at 1:00 pm I went to make my dsaughter a strawberry smoothie but there was still Sunday’s pina colada in the blender (in the freezer) so I gave it a whirl transferred that creamy concotion to another pitcher and wait I just had to pur a tall one for me now, on a monday in the afternoon

Ahh, the Server Subculture… how I miss it sometimes…

Like Nortia, though, my drinking has significantly slowed since my full-time waitress days…

One of my favorite things to do is kick back with a cocktail and run my mouth with a friend or two. If I can sit outside at the same time, all the better!

Now that I work a 9-to-5, I don’t generally socialize on the weeknights, so I’d say I don’t usually drink more than two or three times a month, and then in moderation, because I’m a lightweight, and I can’t tolerate hangovers.

However, now that the weather is GORGEOUS! here, I’m finding opportunities to sit outside on a more frequent basis…

Yesterday I was visited by my pseudo-kid my friend Mary, whom I’ve known since 2nd grade, and decided the weather and the company were ripe for grillin’ (one of my OTHER favorite things to do)!

In the grilling spirit, the friend and I poured ourselves a couple of Jack-n-Cokes…

…and then a couple more…

…by the time we’d finished our second round, the kid was doing the cooking and I, in total Drunken English Teacher mode, was refusing to believe that he had never read–or even heard of–“The Yellow Wallpaper” (you know, the story by Charlotte Perkins-Gilman about the woman… well, you know)!

I don’t even remember how it came up, and I guess it IS more of a “college read” (the kid is only 15 yet), but last night I was determined that he should be familiar with the famous story, so I sat next to the grill and read it aloud to him while he burnt our salmon.

Turns out it’s not a good story for reading aloud.

So I switched to Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Think I’m a bad influence on that boy?

Whoops! That’s “I was visited by my pseudo-kid AND my friend Mary…”

No drinking since July '92.

To heck with booze. Gave it up ten years ago no regrets. I was a lucky lush for years. Plan for rides home or stayovers prior to getting wasted, then party time. Never had to drink to go to work. Only occasionally missed work because of drinking. Never got a traffic ticket though I drove, drinking, for years. Only fathered two aborted fetuses because of lazy coitus with drunken belles in a whole career of boozy relationships. Could go for days with only a few beers a day if any at all. Party hard for the weekend, but not all the time.

Would only drink alone if there was no one else around when I wanted a few shots. Never wet the bed alone: though once woke up on a hotel sofa with really warm jeans after a killer wedding reception. Fortunately that morning the staff was willing to put my pants in the drier so I would be presentable for the AM mimosa and bloody party on the veranda.

Got the biggest party of the year coming up in May: it will be my tenth sober one. Some of my old friends continue to drink lots and lots: they slur and go stupid by nightfall and I just laugh and hide their keys. My age group is coming around to piper paying time: every year we catch up on our medical histories. No cirrhosis yet but I know it’s coming.

Two or three glassed of red wine DAILY.

Beer on weekends.

Hardly EVER go a day without some kind of liquor coursing through my veins.

I’ve had friends who’ve questioned their apparent alcoholism in the past and when they were interviewed they confessed that while they drank a lot of it, they only drank beer. Which was true.

The interviewer dismissed them with a wave of the hand and said “Don’t worry about”.

I thought that was a little strange but, what the hell. Cheers
