There’s no option for me. I have no moral or ethical opposition to drinking alcohol; I just don’t do it much. Once every six months or so seems to be my pattern, though in fact I haven’t had a drink since last Thanksgiving. And of course you left off never. ---

I voted once a week but it’s usually more like once a month. But occasionally I’ll have one several days in a row. ---

I put “once a month” but it’s more like once every three months. When I do drink the goal is always to get drunk. I don’t get people who drink but don’t want to become intoxicated. Isn’t that the point? To me anything with alcohol in it invariably tastes like piss so there’s got to be a reason I’m subjecting myself to that. And yeah, I realize that alcohol might taste awesome to other people. Doesn’t stop me from being bewildered by the idea of drinking the stuff purely for the taste. ---

My answer is about once per month and it’s funny that this poll arrives directly after I’ve finished consuming the only drink I’ve had this month. I used to drink a lot more, probably averaging out to once a day, usually one glass of wine with dinner. About two and half years ago my brother committed suicide. After that alcohol stopped “working” for me. It just didn’t have any pleasant effects any more, and usually had unpleasant ones, either nausea right away or hangover the next day, even with only one drink. This was not a conscious decision. My best theory is that some well of “healthiness” (physical, mental or both) in me cut off alcohol as a coping mechanism for me at that time because that would’ve been disastrous. The only time I drink now is in social groups. Odd theory again, but perhaps the chemicals set flowing in my brain by being among friends interacts nicely with the alcohol? I dunno. The glass I just had was a mistake. I’m not in a social setting (sadly chatting online doesn’t do the trick, nor does hanging out with just my husband), but I’ve been reading “Dance With Dragons” and there’s just so much wine drinking that I started to think, “yes, wine is nice, I bet a glass of wine would be nice…” But no… ---

I drink alcohol irregularly. I might have a couple of beers a week, with lunch or dinner, or I might go for months without alcohol. Usually I only drink when I’m also eating. But occasionally I’ll feel the urge for a bit of one spirit or another, or a beer. I’ll usually have a beer or two if I’m out with friends. If I’m at a party (a real party, not a company gig)… Well, there’s no telling how much will be consumed. I think I had a beer last month sometime. ---

Once a year or so. I had a glass of wine with dinner at my cousin’s wedding over the weekend when they were doing the toasts. I’m not opposed to drinking at all, I’m just very picky and can’t stand the taste of pretty much any alcohol except some types of wine or champagne. Maybe it’s an acquired taste, but why would I try something I hate enough times to acquire a taste for it? Same deal with coffee. ---

I put 1x/week because that’s what it probably averages out to. I tend to drink 2-3 nights in a row, a couple of times per month. ---
