I have purchased two tvs in my lifetime; one in university and one in 2008. I have had two others that were donations from family. So, that’s four in sixteen years.
Of those four, two are still in use at my house, one was donated to my sister (I got my parent’s old tv and gave her mine) which is also still in use and one was donated to my sister-in-law and it is also still in use.
And, yes, one is still a CRT. It is the basement TV and we have no plans to replace it. (The 50 year estimate for return on investment above seems about accurate. Similarly, we are not replacing our refridgerator or diswasher.)
